The CT State Community College is developing a pool of applicants for potential part-time tutoring positions. (Up to 17 hours per week).

These positions are on continuous recruitment and are filled on an as-needed basis, depending on specific department needs. Applicants will only be contacted if there is a current need at the campus indicated on their application and they have met the required qualifications and experience.

Location Connecticut Department of Correction facilities through the CT State Community College campuses below. This position is not remote.

Position Summary The Community College system offers two‑year liberal arts degree programs as well as occupational and technical programs for a population with a wide range of academic and experiential preparation. The Tutor provides instructional support services to students in small groups at a Connecticut Department of Correction facility as part of the Second Chance Pell program.

Example of Job Duties

Providing group tutoring.

Assisting students in carrying out assignments, including giving supplemental instruction in the academic discipline being applied.

Observing and providing information to faculty on student performance and on those requiring special faculty instruction.

Minimum Qualifications Associate degree in the assigned academic field or a closely related field with one (1) or more years of related teaching and/or tutoring experience; or an equivalent combination of experience and training which would lead to the competencies required to carry out the position’s essential duties.

Incumbents are required to have demonstrated advanced knowledge and abilities in the following:

Experience in tutoring and basic instruction in the assigned academic discipline.

Knowledge of principles and concepts of the assigned academic discipline.

Experience supporting students in academic goal setting and career planning.

Current assigned academic disciplines: English & Mathematics

Candidates must possess proven ability to effectively work with culturally, linguistically, and ethnically diverse faculty, staff, and students. Experience with reflective, interactive, culturally responsive pedagogical teaching techniques is expected, along with excellent oral and written communication skills and strong information technology literacy skills such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, etc.).

Special Requirements Incumbent must go through a complete Department of Corrections background check, attend a 3‑hour Volunteer, Intern and Professional Partner (VIP) training on safety and security, and do a Site Sense orientation for the facility in which they will tutor.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working with faculty and staff members in different departments or divisions.

Ability to provide academic support via video conferencing platforms.

Two (2) years of relevant teaching and/or tutoring experience.

Prior experience using the TutorTrac platform and Blackboard LMS (not all colleges require this experience).

$34.06 hourly.
