Job Description

Director of Trust and Estate Administration. Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Gift Planning, the Director provides leadership for the administration of the university’s gift planning effort. The Director is responsible for planning, implementing, and managing efforts that provide outstanding customer service to donors funding life income gifts and gifts of complex assets, and that support the efforts of gift planning officers to secure new gifts. Working in close coordination with the Virginia Tech Foundation, the Director monitors the program’s interests in matured estates and trusts and supports the Foundation’s efforts to protect its interests in such gifts. The Director will also work with the Foundation to support its efforts to monitor its interests in all life income gifts (including those it does not administer) and in other non-cash gifts, as well as administer the Virginia Tech Foundation Donor-advised Fund. The Director must have the ability and willingness to travel regionally and nationally when required, utilizing standard, commercial, and/or personal modes of transportation. Additionally, the ability to work nights and weekends, and participate in college or university programs when possible is required. Responsibilities

Provide leadership for the administration of the university’s gift planning effort. Plan, implement, and manage efforts that deliver outstanding donor service for life income gifts and gifts of complex assets. Support gift planning officers in securing new gifts. Collaborate with the Virginia Tech Foundation to monitor and protect interests in matured estates, trusts, and other non-cash gifts, including administration of the Foundation Donor-advised Fund. Coordinate monitoring of interests in life income gifts, including those not administered by the Foundation. Travel regionally and nationally as required; work evenings and weekends and participate in university programs when possible. Required Qualifications

Master’s or bachelor’s degree with significant related experience in trusts and estate law practice or accounting, risk management, wealth management, or charitable gift planning. Demonstrated ability to acquire knowledge of legal, estate, tax, financial, and gift planning concepts. Strong communication, organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills. Experience leading a team within a multifaceted organization requiring collaboration, teamwork, and communication. Preferred Qualifications

Virginia Tech knowledge or experience with its history, operations, priorities, and alumni. Fundraising or volunteer experience at a large university or large charitable organization. Extensive related experience in trusts and estate law practice, accounting, wealth management, or charitable gift planning. JD degree or CPA designation. Additional Information

Overtime Status: Exempt (not eligible for overtime). Appointment Type: Regular. Salary Information: $110,000 to $120,000. Review Date: November 17, 2025. Travel: Travel required as part of the role.
