Job Summary
The Laboratory Services Division of Children’s of Alabama seeks a Pediatric Staff Pathologist. The successful candidate will join a group of 7 Pathologists with subspecialty training in Pediatric Pathology, Hematopathology, Neuropathology, Transfusion Medicine, and Microbiology.
The group receives approximately 6,000 specimens per year (including surgical pathology, hematopathology, and cytopathology cases) and 25-30 autopsies per year. Our Pathologists participate actively in multidisciplinary rounds and site groups working closely with their clinical colleagues including the Comprehensive Cancer Care Program. On-call and medical autopsy coverage is required and shared within the group.
The pathology group provides medical directorship of the hospital laboratories. Additional opportunities are available for leadership and growth within the department. The Department has a strong and diverse faculty, excellent training programs and a supportive atmosphere for practicing subspecialty academic pathology.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
Provide pathology and laboratory diagnostic support services to the laboratory and health system.
Maintain high standards of professional services and support laboratory quality initiatives.
Appropriate analysis of surgical specimens, intraoperative surgical pathology consultations and prompt reporting of results.
Engage in multidisciplinary conferences and other activities.
Participate in Resident and Fellow education for those individuals rotating to Children's of Alabama from UAB and other sites.
Other responsibilities as needed
Education
Graduation from an accredited medical school and completion of an approved residency in anatomic and clinical pathology required. Fellowship in Pediatric Pathology strongly desired.
Experience, Licensures, Certifications, and/or Registries
Candidates must be eligible for an Alabama medical license or equivalent certification/permit as determined by the Alabama Medical Board. Candidates must be board certified in Anatomic and Clinical and board certified/eligible in Pediatric Pathology or a related subspecialty (if subspecialty has a board exam).
