Position Overview
We are seeking two (2) contracted qualified Board-Certified/Board-Eligible Pathologists to provide on-site Anatomical and Clinical Pathology Services at the Robley Rex VA Medical Center, Louisville, KY. The Pathologists will deliver high-quality diagnostic services, including surgical pathology, cytopathology, and autopsy pathology, while adhering to national standards and VA policies. Location : Robley Rex VA Medical Center in Louisville, KY Key Responsibilities
Anatomical Pathology Services
Diagnose diseases using laboratory techniques and patient specimens. Oversee occasional autopsies with assistance from Dieners to determine causes of death. Microscopic evaluation of tissue samples, including surgical pathology, cytopathology, and abnormal GYN cytopathology. Provide intraoperative consultations and frozen section evaluations. Ensure timely completion of pathology reports (routine surgical pathology reports within 2 working days).
Clinical Pathology Services
Provide clinical laboratory consultations to technical staff and healthcare providers. Oversee quality assurance programs and ensure compliance with accrediting and regulatory agency requirements. Participate in intradepartmental consultations for complex or controversial cases.
Administrative Duties
Attend and participate in quality improvement meetings (e.g., Tumor Board, Quality Assurance Meetings). Complete required documentation for quality assurance and patient safety compliance. Maintain compliance with VA policies, including HIPAA and patient safety standards.
Autopsy Services
Supervise Pathologists’ Assistants and Dieners during post-mortem examinations, including securing authorizations and coordinating with funeral directors. Ensure timely completion of post-mortem examination reports.
Training and Compliance
Complete all VA-mandated training, including HIPAA, patient safety, and active threat training. Maintain current certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Continuing Medical Education (CME).
Qualifications
Education : MD or DO degree with completion of residency in Anatomical and/or Clinical Pathology. Licensure : Current, full, and unrestricted medical license in any U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia. Board Certification/Eligibility : Certified or eligible by the American Board of Pathology in Anatomical and/or Clinical Pathology.
