Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

to support the

Molten Chloride Fast Reactor (MCFR)

program and the

Molten Chloride Reactor Experiment (MCRE) . This position reports to the MCFR Mechanical Design Manager. The role focuses on the design and analysis of mechanical systems—beginning with support of the non-nuclear MCRE Mockup and progressing toward ownership and delivery of MCRE hardware. The engineer will collaborate with vendors, project engineers, and technical leads in a high-performing, multi-disciplinary environment to deliver hardware for the first liquid-fueled, fast-spectrum reactor to be built and operated at

Idaho National Laboratory . Responsibilities

Coordinate input and requirements from the engineering and project teams to produce mechanical design solutions Create 3D models of structures, systems, and components Perform detailed mechanical analyses, including hand calculations and finite element analysis (FEA) Generate engineering drawings per

ASME Y14.1 and Y14.5

standards Develop design specifications, mechanical load descriptions, and related documentation Provide input to design schedules and planning activities Coordinate with vendors and review submittals Present mechanical design results to key stakeholders Qualifications

B.S.

in Mechanical or related discipline with

6+ years

of relevant experience, or

M.S.

with

3+ years Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred Proficient in

ANSYS

(or similar FEA software) and

SolidWorks

(or equivalent CAD software) Proven experience delivering qualified hardware and supporting documentation Knowledge of

NQA-1

or

ISO 9001

quality programs Strong technical writing, documentation, and communication skills Demonstrated attention to detail and precision in design reviews The successful candidate will demonstrate integrity, collaboration, and a strong commitment to technical excellence.
