Base pay range $52.00/hr - $85.00/hr
Our client is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to support the Molten Chloride Fast Reactor (MCFR) program. This position reports to the MCFR Mechanical Design Manager. The role centers on mechanical analysis and scripting, beginning with property development for finite element analysis and evolving toward design scoping and analysis of reactor components.
You’ll collaborate with materials engineering and thermal-hydraulics in a high-performing, multi-disciplinary environment to spearhead new analysis methodologies and size reactor components.
Responsibilities
Develop material models and support novel analysis methodologies in the Mechanical Design discipline
Generate basic sizing calculations for reactor components
Perform mechanical analyses using finite element method with commercial codes
Study ASME BPVC Section III, Division 5
Conduct technical reviews and supplier designs and deliverables
Key Qualifications and Skills
B.S. in Mechanical or related discipline from an accredited university and 4+ years of relevant experience or M.S. in Mechanical or related discipline with 2+ years of experience
Engineer in training (EIT) or licensed PE desired
Recent experience with mechanical analysis software (ANSYS preferred)
Recent experience with scripting software (Python and ANSYS APDL preferred)
Familiar with material failure mechanisms and application of design standards and codes
Proficiency in CAD software (Solidworks preferred)
Demonstrated hardware ownership
Attention to detail and aspiration for technical excellence
The successful candidate will possess a high degree of trust and integrity, communicate openly and display respect, and a desire to foster teamwork
Actual position starting level and title will be determined based on assessment of qualifications
