09/2025 Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy or related field with a focus in turf management, and 5 years of experience in turf management, preferably in athletic field maintenance. Minimum of 10 years of experience in turf management, preferably in athletic field maintenance may be substituted for education requirement as determined by Katy ISD. Proven expertise in developing and implementing Integrated Pest Management (IPM) programs. Strong knowledge of irrigation systems, including installation, maintenance and repairs. Familiarity with water conservation technologies and sustainable practices. Familiarity with athletic field management, including industry standards for safety and playability. Knowledge of turf, soil, trees and landscaping diseases, herbicides, pesticides, irrigation systems and fertilization. Ability to operate and maintain turf management equipment (e.g., mowers, aerators, sprayers). Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills. Possess a valid Texas Operator’s license and ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings, as needed. Pesticide applicator’s license or certification (preferred or ability to obtain within 6 months). Knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations related to pest control and environmental safety. Ability to evaluate and oversee personnel. Knowledge of turf, soil, trees and landscaping diseases, herbicides, pesticides, irrigation systems and fertilization. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Perform other duties as assigned. Primary Purpose: Responsible for implementing Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program, managing athletic turf care, maintaining and repairing irrigation systems, and ensuring the overall quality and safety of athletic fields. Provide advice and leadership in all matters relating to areas that maintain district athletic grounds in a condition of operating excellence, cleanliness and safety so that full educational use of the facilities can be obtained. Major Duties and Responsibilities: IPM:
Implement, manage and oversee the district’s Integrated Pest Management Program according to the laws set by the Texas Department of Agriculture. Implement, and monitor current Katy ISD IPM programs to control pests, weeds, and diseases for Katy ISD Athletic turf while minimizing environmental impact. Conduct regular inspections to identify pest issues and apply appropriate control measures in compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
Turf Management:
Oversee the maintenance of athletic fields, including mowing, fertilization, aeration, topdressing, and overseeding to ensure optimal turf health and playability. Develop and execute turf care schedules tailored to seasonal and usage demands by both Katy ISD and the community. Monitor soil conditions and recommend improvements to enhance turf quality.
Irrigation Systems Management:
Manage, maintain, and repair irrigation systems to ensure efficient water usage and proper field hydration. Troubleshoot and resolve irrigation system issues promptly to prevent disruptions. Develop and implement effective water conservation practices in line with district sustainability goals.
Athletic Field Management and Maintenance:
Ensure athletic fields meet safety, aesthetic, and performance standards for school events and activities. Collaborate with coaches, athletic directors, and maintenance staff to address field-specific needs. Oversee & manage contracted services as it related to field management and maintenance. Conduct regular, detailed field inspections to identify safety hazards, equipment malfunctions and infrastructure problems.
Supervisory and Administrative Duties:
Supervise, train and evaluate all assigned staff on proper turf and irrigation maintenance techniques and proper and safe use of tools and equipment. Manage budgets, equipment, and supplies related to turf and field maintenance. Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, pest control applications, and irrigation schedules. Provide assistance, coordination and oversight of district work order program. Ensure all required safety and mandatory training are current for personnel. Report to the General Manager of Facilities on field conditions, project updates, and operational needs.
Equipment Used: Athletic field related equipment and irrigation equipment. Light truck or van. Computer. Working Conditions: Frequent district wide travel: prolonged and irregular hours, work indoors and outdoors to conduct on-site inspections of all athletic and/or district facilities. Exposure to extreme temperatures, chemical (herbicides/fertilizers).
