The Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro South is the preeminent youth development organization in Southeastern Massachusetts, serving more than 2,500 youth annually from infancy to adulthood from nearly 50 zip codes at our Clubhouses in Brockton and Taunton, 100-acre Camp Riverside property, and at several community extension sites across the region. The Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro South is hiring for the position of
Aquatics Coordinator
in our Taunton Clubhouse. The
Aquatics Coordinator
will also support our Camp Riverside, also located in Taunton. The
Aquatics Coordinator
is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations and growth of Clubs aquatic programs at two locations. This position requires strong leadership, strategic planning, and community engagement to ensure the success of aquatic activities and staff development while maintaining high safety and operational standards. Program responsibility supports our priority outcome areas of Academic Success, Healthy Lifestyles, and Good Character and Citizenship. The
Aquatics Coordinator
must be a subject matter expert and innovator in the core programs of the Club including but not limited to: Lifeguarding; Parent & Child, Preschool, Youth, Private, and Adult Lessons; Family Swim Programs; all Rentals and Pool Parties; and Competitive and Pre-competitive Swim Programs that reflect community needs and maintain the Clubs high standards of quality, safety, and caring. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Program Development & Operations Plan, implement, and oversee aquatic programs, including swimming lessons, lifeguard training, water fitness classes, swim team, and community outreach initiatives. Ensure programs meet Club standards, participant needs, and industry best practices. Evaluate program effectiveness, implement improvements, and track participation metrics. Safety & Compliance Ensure all pools comply with local, state, and federal health and safety regulations. Maintain up-to-date certifications for self and staff, including CPR, First Aid, and lifeguard training. Conduct regular safety drills, pool inspections, and equipment checks to ensure operational readiness. Implement emergency action plans and oversee risk management procedures. Responsible for deployment, use, and operations of the WAVE anti-drowning system. Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise lifeguards, swim instructors, and aquatics personnel. Provide ongoing coaching, professional development, and performance evaluations. Foster a positive, safety-focused team culture that prioritizes excellence in customer service. Attend professional development courses and staff meetings to enhance skills and program impact. Facility & Resource Management Ensure clean, well-maintained pools, equipment, and locker rooms at all locations. Oversee pool chemical levels, and collaborate with maintenance teams on necessary repairs and mechanical systems. Manage pool agreements and rentals, ensuring proper staffing, programming, and compliance. Community Engagement & Membership Growth Promote aquatic programs to increase participation and community impact. Represent the Club at local events, fostering relationships to support growth and outreach. Assist in the development and implementation of the aquatics department budget, tracking expenses and revenue. Maintain accurate records of registrations, certifications, incident reports, and facility maintenance logs. Ensure timely payroll processing and efficient staff scheduling. Other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum of 1-3 years of experience in pool management, lifeguarding, supervision, or related fields. Some level of advanced education in sports management, recreation, or a related field preferred. Knowledge of aquatics regulations and best practices in youth-serving aquatics facilities. Current Lifeguard certification. Ability to acquire: Lifeguard instructor, Swim Lesson Instructor and eventually Instructor Trainer levels of certification with national agencies. Basic knowledge of program planning, organizational design, budgeting, and administrative operations. Willingness to gain experience managing a high-performing team of direct service staff. Superior organizational skills, attention to detail, and project management experience, including the ability to work efficiently and effectively to meet deadlines in a cross-functional, team-based environment. Demonstrated resource management, budgeting, and analytical skills – including the ability to compile and analyze data for planning and reporting purposes. Technological proficiency, including a command of the Microsoft Office Suite, and familiarity with using a database to track and extract information. Exemplary communication skills (written and verbal) are needed, including the ability to present in front of large groups, interact with and motivate stakeholders, represent the organization at community events and meetings, and write professionally in emails, etc. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people (staff, families, youth, etc.) and a track record of building and sustaining meaningful relationships with individuals and teams from all socioeconomic backgrounds. Commitment to professionalism including high expectations and standards of quality, a strong work ethic and personal code of ethics, accountability, and dependability. Self-motivated and goal-oriented with the ability to set effective objectives for teams and individuals and take ownership for results. Demonstrated commitment to the values of diversity, inclusiveness, and empowerment. Willing to provide leadership daily in a normal eight-hour day and occasional night and weekend hours. Certifications: As outlined in BGCMS Training Academy upon hire or within allocated training timelines. This position requires a valid driver’s license and will require frequent local travel.
