Medical Laboratory Scientist Job Description
Eagle Health is seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist to join our team in Fort Detrick, MD. The employee shall serve as a Medical Laboratory Scientist performing complex and general clinical pathology laboratory testing within AAT. The employee is responsible for maintenance, operation, and quality assurance and quality control aspects of all clinical laboratory equipment and tests IAW all applicable regulations. The individual must be willing to develop and learn new techniques when required, and must demonstrate an acceptable level of performance independently carrying out clinical pathology laboratory support. Responsibilities
Perform and oversee AAT’s animal clinical pathology mission as the primary point of contact (POC), including daily laboratory operations supporting research programs and testing of NHP colony management specimens. Perform microbiological and related biological and bio-chemical examinations on clinical and environmental specimens for the detection and identification of microbial agents of disease. Perform hematological, chemistry, and coagulation tests of blood samples, including preparing blood smears and urinalysis testing, and generating sediment preparations. Provide oversight and review of animal clinical pathology test results and procedures. Accurately evaluate, interpret and record the results of laboratory tests and control data IAW GLP SOPs and ASVCP QALs guidelines. Perform proper Quality Control and quality assurance procedures, equipment validation, and maintain records, logs, and reports IAW GLP SOPs and ASVCP QALs guidelines for all AAT animal clinical pathology equipment. Recognize anomalies in test results and quality control data, including fluctuations over time, and determine and correct the underlying cause(s). Assist in research, planning, and evaluation of alternate testing methods and procedures, and provide training of laboratory or other related personnel. Prepare the AAT animal clinical pathology laboratories for GLP audits and inspections by other regulatory agencies. Maintain the laboratory, keeping equipment and work areas in a clean, orderly, and safe manner, and maintain inventories of all animal clinical pathology laboratory supplies. Create and maintain laboratory and office documents including SOPs, logs for equipment use and supply purchases and inventory, and assist in the preparation of technical reports, standard operating procedures, and manuscripts relating to research efforts. Participate in meetings and give oral presentations related to assigned duties. Generate animal clinical pathology written summaries, reports, and related documents as needed. Provide accurate technical information to research scientists and laboratory animal veterinarians. Timely report observations of safety or standard operating procedure noncompliance IAW applicable SOPs, guidance, and regulations. Investigate independently, and in collaboration with others, events during the phases of infection in representative laboratory animals prior to and following agent exposure. Cross-train to provide backfill support to animal plethysmography, aerosol assisting, and assays as needed. Perform weekly/monthly details of Building 1412 BSL-3 change rooms, showers, and assigned containment areas, ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations and SOPs. Perform weekly/monthly details of Building 1412 BSL-2 assigned laboratories, ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations and SOPs. BPRP enrollment is required and must be maintained IAW the provisions in this contract and all applicable regulations. Travel Requirements

Job Requirements
Required Qualifications include:
Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree or higher with 7 or more years of post-graduate work experience in a high throughput diagnostic clinical pathology laboratory (e.g., referral laboratory, hospital, etc.) or in a research setting. Experience in chemistry, hematology, and urinalysis, with experience in coagulation and microbiology highly desirable. Experience performing clinical pathology testing in BSL-3 and/or BSL-4 containment is highly desirable, and knowledge of or experience with GLP work is preferred. Familiarity with 21 CFR Part 58 (GLP for Nonclinical Laboratory Studies) and the QALs guidelines established by the ASVCP. Must be a US citizen, per contract requirements. Certification as a Medical Technologist or Medical Laboratory Scientist by a nationally recognized accreditation agency (ASCP or AMT) is required.
