North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to appoint a Specialty Doctor in Anaesthetics based at the Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle (on a full-time or part-time basis). An element of cross site work to the West Cumberland Hospital, Whitehaven is anticipated. The closing date is 05 November 2025. Overview

Specialty Doctor in Anaesthetics – Primary base at Cumberland Infirmary. Responsibilities

Provide elective anaesthesia sessions and contribute to a resident full shift rota not expected to exceed 1 in 8. Two 1:8 rotas are in place, one to support theatres and obstetrics and one to support ICU, both supported by a separate Consultant on-call. Work across a range of anaesthetic areas during daytime work and develop areas of interest. There is an expectation of working at both hospital sites to encourage greater experience. Join the current specialty doctors to provide service coverage and participate in cross-site working as required. Share with colleagues the role of educational or clinical supervisor to junior doctors in training including induction, provision of supportive formal appraisals, supervision of learning portfolios, and career advice as appropriate. Undertake personal development and mandatory training; participate in clinical meetings and post graduate activities in the Trust; work closely with other specialist teams; work with managers and professional colleagues to ensure the efficient running of services; assist in the preparation of business plans; take an interest in research/teaching with participation in projects and courses. Demonstrate a firm commitment to Clinical Governance, including developing and maintaining systems and practice to ensure effective clinical audit; attending and contributing to the Trust Clinical Governance Programmes; ensuring staff are aware of the Trust's Risk Management Strategy and its implementation; and participating in the Trust Clinical Incident Reporting System. Develop a programme of personal continuing medical education and professional development in accordance with the recommendations of the relevant Royal Colleges. About us

Qualifications

MBBS or recognised equivalent Experience

Full GMC Registration Shall have completed at least four years of full-time postgraduate training (or equivalent gained on a part-time basis) at least two of which are in a relevant specialty or as a fixed-term specialty trainee; or shall have equivalent experience and competencies. Teaching of junior medical staff and nursing staff; training in evidence-based medicine; evidence of CPD; evidence of appraisal and revalidation within GMC guidelines. Skills

Communication and language skills in English; ability to communicate clearly in writing and speech. Interpersonal skills; ability to work with others, empathy, and a non-judgemental approach to patients and colleagues. Resilience, thoroughness, probity, decisiveness/accountability, flexibility; demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and align with Trust values. Academic/Research

Evidence of participation in local audits; academic training with research publications where applicable. Management/ Administrative Experience

Willing to work with colleagues in management, nursing and other specialties to ensure delivery of a high quality, safe and reliable service; familiarity with clinical governance; experience in clinical governance. Physical requirements
