Begin your career by qualifying through the shipyard’s start-of-the-art welding school. Use a variety of welding filler metals and processes to perform structural and pipe welds throughout all phases of ship construction. Weld in tack, fillet, and full penetration welds on steel foundations and joints for aircraft carriers and submarines. Employ SMAW, FCAW, GMAW, and GTAW welding processes and perform welding in all positions using manual and mechanized techniques. Meet stringent nondestructive testing requirements, including visual inspection, ultrasonic inspection, and radiographic inspection. Receive further training in certified visual inspection, fire watch protocols, carbon arcing, and troubleshooting minor welding equipment issues. Work in conditions that include various weather, heights on scaffolding, and confined spaces; maintain safety, precision, and adaptability. Pass a 3-week unpaid training program (120 hours) and a physical agility test; undergo background investigation and drug screen as required. Be able to kneel, squat, crawl, bend, stoop, climb daily; lift at least 40 pounds; perform overhead work; work overtime as needed; be clean shaven to wear a respirator; and work outdoors year-round in all weather conditions. Be able to work at extreme heights and in small, tight, confined spaces; be willing to work any shift. Qualifications

High school graduate or equivalent preferred (Nice to Have). Must be able to pass a 3-week unpaid program (120 hours) and a physical agility test. Must be able to pass a background check and drug screen. Must be able to pass a physical agility test and lift at least 40 pounds. Must be able to perform overhead work and work in all weather conditions. Must be able to work at extreme heights and in confined spaces. Must be able to work any shift. Nice to Have
