Overview
Wildwood Outdoor Education Center is seeking a seasonal Assistant Camp Director to help further our mission of summer camp for the community. This position focuses on developing, implementing, and evaluating the summer camp program. Assisting with the planning and executing excellent overnight camp experiences to achieve social-emotional learning and youth development outcomes; Assisting in the direction, supervision and organization of staff during training and throughout the summer; Ensuring that camp safety practices and procedures are in place, in compliance with ACA, and are being followed; Being a role model to campers and staff in their attitude and behavior; Building strong connections with campers and staff. The position requires living and working on-site at our camp in La Cygne, KS during the summer months (May to August). Work hours in the summer will require evening and weekend hours. Responsibilities
Responsibilities will include: Summer Programming Create comprehensive and culturally responsive summer curricula for summer overnight camp and leadership development programming. Successful programming will strengthen campers’ social-emotional learning, and focus on camper fun, programmatic progression, and STEM/environmental literacy. Successful programming will use the lenses of diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging (DEIB), as well as trauma-informed care to connect families with the camp community. Oversee execution of summer programming in compliance with American Camp Association standards and other organizational guidelines. Ensure all camper needs are met, including camper health, meals, physical, mental and emotional safety. Address camper issues using trauma-informed care. Seasonal Summer Staff Assist in the development and execution of seasonal staff training and performance management in conjunction with internal and external experts. Oversee specific seasonal staff and successfully resolve conflict and manage performance using trauma-informed approaches. Design and execute workplace activities and procedures that increase staff satisfaction and retention. Qualifications
This position requires at least 2 years of camp experience (camper, CIT or staff). A successful candidate will have some experience planning and executing curricula for youth, managing staff, cultivating a sense of belonging for all, and building inclusive community relationships. Excellent leadership, planning, and communication skills are essential. Candidates should have the ability to work independently, strive for excellence, and possess a demonstrated passion for diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging. Compensation and Benefits
We offer a starting daily salary at $125 with 5-6 days a week, and on-site accommodations for the duration of employment. How to Apply
