We’re looking for Assistant Directors who want to inspire the next generation of leaders, model emotional intelligence, boost kids’ confidence, create tight‑knit communities, and bring affordable and inclusive camp programs into communities across NYC.
What you will do
Provide enthusiastic and inspiring leadership to summer staff, ensuring a supportive, safe, and exciting atmosphere for spirited campers.
Plan, execute, and coordinate camp activities with detailed communications, schedules, behavioral expectations, and desired outcomes.
Attend orientations and actively contribute to the preparation of campsite outlines and staff assignments.
Assist in the preparation of the campsite, conduct staff training, and assume responsibility for general housekeeping tasks.
Plan and execute weekly theme special events with your camp leadership team.
Support counselors and specialists during scheduled periods by helping manage the group and engaging campers in the activity.
Observe camper behavior, assess appropriateness, enforce safety regulations, and apply positive behavior management techniques.
Ensure equipment and supplies are ordered, available, and properly maintained.
Pre‑Summer & Summer Work Schedule Pre‑Summer Camp Expectations
– Mid May to June (8‑10 hours per week). Assist with program meetings, staff support, and parent communication.
Summer Camp Expectations
– Full‑time in‑person camp leadership support for June 17 – August 22, 2025. 40‑60+ campers and 15‑20+ staff members.
Locations: Inwood, Upper East Side, East Village, Park Slope, Greenpoint, West Village, Fort Greene.
Compensation Pre‑summer stipend: $250 per month (mid‑May to June), plus training bonus: $355 (virtual training). Summer salary: $800 – $900 per week, paid biweekly from July – August 2025.
Qualifications
Completed a physical exam and TB test within one year of the camp dates.
Pass NYS and national background checks.
CPR, First Aid, and AED certified.
At least 2 years of professional camp leadership experience, including youth program development, staff supervision, parent relations.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Prior experience as a supervisor in after‑school or summer programs, or as an educator (public/private) for 2+ years.
Committed to working part time during the school year and eight weeks during the summer.
Attend mandatory core training and team building sessions.
