The Assistant Director is expected to take an active role in the continued development of the Campus Life department. They should be a visible and approachable campus presence, committed to working with students on creating a vibrant co-curricular experience, and supportive of the varying needs of the diverse campus community. The person in this role must be a student advocate, self-starter, open-minded, innovative, conscious of Pitzer’s core values, caring of student mental health, and committed to social justice. They should be interested in working on a student-driven campus that has a strong student voice in all levels of the college governance and campus-life.

* Serving as the staff advisor to the Pitzer Events Board; attending regular meetings and providing guidance as needed* Advising Pitzer’s student-sponsored 5C events and music festival planning committees* Working with student organizations and programming bodies to understanding Pitzer processes and holding event registrants accountable, managing the potential for risk* Providing supervision for evening and weekend events, which may include responding to emergencies and coordinating with campus partners and event planners to address urgent needs* Serving on the 5C Student Activities committee to coordinate across the Claremont Consortium as a Pitzer representative; manage 5C event calendaring for Pitzer, bridge student event coordinators with college and 5C processes, work with 5C colleagues to refine event processes* Serving as a Campus Life and Student Affairs representative on the Teaching, Learning, and Campus Life Committee* Understanding of the importance of co-curricular experiences in supporting the academic mission values of the College.* Ability to build relationships across a diverse community, demonstrating cultural awareness, respectful communication, adaptability, sensitivity, and active listening.* Positive, energetic, team-oriented, with a proven record of collaboration.* Ability to coordinate and prioritize multiple concurrent projects, bring them to completion by the established deadlines, meeting expectations, and accommodate frequent interruptions.* Attention to detail and adherence to accuracy.* Analytical skills to identify and assess problems and to making recommendations and enhancements.* Proven ability to effectively and productively supervise and direct the work of others.* Exercise good judgment, tact, maturity, strict confidentiality and initiative in addressing inquiries and requests.* Excellent communication skills in English, both oral and written.* Ability to deal effectively with crises and conflict, by exercising sound judgment and effective communication as part of the on-call rotation.* Ability to effectively use computer technology, including recent versions of Microsoft Office Word, Excel and Outlook, Google Docs, as well as social media.* Must have access to reliable and secure computer and internet connection. Must maintain password protection for work files and records and ensure that no one else has access to password and login credentials at remote work site.* Must have access to a dedicated and suitable workstation at remote location, including desk or table and supporting, upright chair. Must ensure workstation is safe and free from hazards.**Physical Requirements**: This is a somewhat active position. Must be able to:* Sit for prolonged periods of time;* Operate a computer for prolonged periods of time;* Communicate with others by email, in person and over the telephone;* Read printed materials and a computer screen;* Have the mobility to work in a standard office setting and use standard office equipment;* Assist with the set-up, staffing and clean-up of events (e.g. tables, signage, supplies, boxes, etc.)* Grasping, pulling, pushing, stooping, bending, and twisting;* Climbing step ladders, reaching out and overhead;* Lift 20 pounds from the ground to waist level unassisted;* Must be able to drive and transport students in motorized vehicles or electric utility carts as needed;* Have the stamina to manage a high-volume workload in a fast-paced work environment;* Have the stamina to work occasional evenings and weekends and* Must be able to perform the tasks listed below (based on a typical week):* Cover Letter:
