Job Summary:
The Assistant Director plays an important leadership role in the Office of Student Assistance and Support (OSAS) and serves as the vice-chair of the campus-wide Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT). This position involves working one-on-one with students in crisis, as well as supervising two care coordinators. To provide comprehensive support and ensure the success of students, the Assistant Director collaborates with faculty, staff, parents, and community members. Additionally, this staff member will participate in an on-call rotation for drop-in services and in the dean on-call program.
Key Job Responsibilities:
Serve as the vice-chair for the Behavioral Intervention Team.
Serve as Dean on Call for scheduled evenings and weekends; respond to campus crisis when needed.
Develop, plan, and direct staff implementation and operational work plans of one or multiple student affairs programs, activities, experiences, and/or services.
Evaluate and promote short and long term existing strategies and make recommendations for program enhancement.
Contribute to the design of student-focused programs and associated resources and materials to promote new and ongoing educational initiatives.
Answer questions and provide information regarding student affairs resources to individual students and groups.
Exercise supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees.
Identify, develop, and facilitate unit staff training opportunities.
May monitor the program budget and approve expenditures.

Compensation: The expected minimum starting salary for this position is $79,193.00 annually. Actual pay will depend on experience and qualifications. This position offers a comprehensive benefits package including generous paid time off, competitively priced health/dental/vision/life insurance, tax‑advantaged savings accounts, and participation in the nationally recognized Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS) pension fund.
Required Qualifications:
1–2 years of experience serving in an on‑call capacity, providing crisis response and intervention for students after hours and on weekends.
3–5 years of professional experience working with college or university students experiencing mental health, behavioral, or personal challenges.
Experience preparing and analyzing statistical or assessment reports related to student demographics, case trends, and outcomes.
Skilled in consultation and collaboration with faculty and staff regarding student concerns and interventions.
Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated experience supervising professional staff, including performance management and professional development.
Proven ability to serve as a backup to office leadership and to chair or lead campus‑wide committees or intervention teams.
Experience presenting to large and diverse audiences, including faculty, staff, students, and external partners.
Experience coordinating care and case management with local hospitals, mental health providers, and community‑based agencies.
5–7 years of experience in student affairs, case management, or a related on‑campus student support role within higher education.
Education: Bachelor’s Degree Required
Master’s degree Preferred
