Automation and Controls Engineer (Control Systems Engineering, PLC) Location: Phenix City, Alabama Job Function: Controls Engineer Date Of Job Posting: 09-22-2025 3+ to 5 years of experience POSITION: Automation and Controls Engineer (Control Systems Engineering, PLC, HMI, Lean, Six Sigma, AutoCAD, Robotic Platforms, Fanuc Robotics, Cognex Vision Systems) in Phenix City, AL Duration: Full-Time Salary: Excellent Compensation with benefits + relocation
Responsibilities
Maintain safety, product quality, and manufacturing effectiveness through daily troubleshooting and resolution of process difficulties.
Drive the continuous improvement of product quality, including understanding manufacturing process capability and development of semi-finish and finish product specifications.
Support and promote safe practices and environmental commitments in alignment with company policies and compliance requirements.
Create a manufacturing operations vision that aligns with plant and company goals and core values.
Foster regular two-way communication to maximize employee engagement and ensure focus.
Help ensure environmental and safety compliance for the facility.
Diagnose and solve complex problems; participate in daily management and staff meetings.
Complete duties with dedication to safety and environmental stewardship; work with Plant Leadership to achieve business goals.
Be familiar with and stay current on corporate standards; propose plans to avoid obsolete equipment; identify opportunities to increase automation efficiency.
Drive standardization of parts and systems; document legacy and new systems; support IT and HR/Safety with related needs.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or electrical engineering technology; 3+ years in control systems engineering in a manufacturing environment.
Demonstrated electrical and control system engineering capabilities; ability to provide complex and innovative solutions.
Proficiency with Allen-Bradley PLC and HMI apps (including programming) and communications within enterprise and control networks.
Proficiency with VFDs and servo applications.
Experience with robotic platforms (ABB, Fanuc, etc.).
Knowledge of NFPA 70E Electrical Safety in the Workplace (arc flash energy and shock hazards).
Ability to manage multiple projects; lead electrical/controls engineering on major or complex projects (>$1M).
Ability to work with and influence a multi-discipline team; implement plans and execute to milestones.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; proactive in improvement opportunities.
Thorough knowledge of mechanical systems; familiarity with environmental and safety regulations.
Strong leadership, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
Ability to work independently and in a team; interface with all levels of the organization; understand business principles.
