Position Description The Locksmith reports to the Managerof Facilities Maintenance and operates under the direction of the shop lead.This position provides essential locksmith services to support the ongoingoperations, safety, and maintenance of the university’s facilities. TheLocksmith plays a critical role in maintaining campus security and operationalintegrity through the expert management of lock systems, door hardwareinstallation, maintenance, and electronic or mechanical access control solutions. The position requires technicalexpertise in keying systems, lock repair and replacement, and the installationof door hardware in accordance with building codes and university standards.The Locksmith is expected to collaborate with Facilities staff, project teams,and campus stakeholders to ensure secure, reliable access to university spaceswhile maintaining a high standard of customer service and operationalefficiency. Qualifications Maintain, service, and troubleshoot a comprehensiverange of locks across campus facilities, including but not limited todoors, windows, lockers, file cabinets, and padlocks.

Design, install, retrofit, and upgrade locking hardwaresystems in both new and existing buildings to meet current securitystandards.

Cut keys, repair locking mechanisms, and fabricate ormodify parts as needed to ensure proper function and security.

Install, maintain, and support mechanical andelectronic locking systems, including cipher locks and audit trail hardware.

Collaborate closely with the Department of PublicSafety to manage key control procedures, access codes, and relatedsecurity protocols.

Manage the creation and distribution of vehicle keys incoordination with the fleet manager and mechanic, ensuring accurateinventory control.

Install, maintain, and repair door closers and relatedhardware to ensure proper function and safety compliance.

Monitor fire extinguisher locations and conditions,coordinating inspection and maintenance with approved vendors and CampusPublic Safety.

Maintain strict confidentiality when handling securitycodes, sensitive information, and personal data.

Plan, organize, and execute assigned tasksindependently or collaboratively, ensuring timely and effective completionof work orders.

Operate and maintain tools and equipment safely;maintain a clean, organized, and secure workshop environment.

Comply with all university safety standards andactively participate in required safety training sessions andcertifications.

Utilize and maintain the Key Management System (SIMPLEK), Microsoft Excel, and the Traka key management system for documentationand tracking.

Maintain Medeco Biaxial certification and stay currenton industry best practices and advancements.

Perform additional duties related to campus securityand facilities maintenance as assigned. Scheduling

Schedule and prioritize maintenance and installationtasks based on customer requests, space availability, and operationalurgency.

Coordinate work to minimize disruption to universityactivities, particularly in academic, administrative, and residentialareas.

Adjust schedules as needed to accommodate emergencyrequests or evolving campus needs, ensuring timely and efficient servicedelivery.

Communicate clearly with university departments andstakeholders regarding project timelines, access requirements, and workimpacts. Administrative

Accurately open, track, update, and close all assignedwork orders using the university’s facilities management system.

Maintain timely and accurate documentation for workperformed, including timesheets, equipment usage, materials consumed, andservice reports.

Ensure records are compliant with departmental policiesand accessible for review and audit purposes.

Attend departmental, facilities, and safety meetings asrequired to stay informed of policy updates, project schedules, and teamcoordination efforts.

Communication and Customer Service Serve as a key point of contact for all project-related communications, ensuring clarity and consistency across all channels including email, phone, text, and virtual meetings (e.g., Zoom, Microsoft Teams).

Clearly communicate with requesters regarding assessment processes, project scheduling, and status of ongoing work.

Provide timely updates and progress reports to all stakeholders to ensure alignment and transparency.

Collaborate closely with Facilities Managers to coordinate project scopes, share recommendations, and review estimates, ensuring that updates and work management reports are communicated effectively. Maintain a proactive and responsive communication approach to foster strong working relationships and ensure customer satisfaction. MarginalFunctions

Maintain and service electronic and battery-operatedaccess systems, including solenoid opening devices, ADA-complianthardware, and the Medeco key system.

Install and repair various types of door hardware andrelated security components as required to support campus operations.

MinimumQualifications

High school diploma or equivalent.

Minimum of one (1) year of specialized or technicaltraining in locksmithing or a closely related field.

At least three (3) years of professional experience asa locksmith, including experience with lock repair, installation, and keysystems in a comparable environment.

Additional certifications or advanced training inaccess control systems, key management software, or electronic lockingmechanisms.

Prior experience working in an institutional, highereducation, or campus environment with similar security and facilitiesmanagement systems. Salary Range: 34.14

Seattle University has provided a compensation range that representsits good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at thetime of posting. The salary offered to the selected candidate will bedetermined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selectedcandidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equityconsiderations, and available market information, and not based on acandidate’s gender or any other protected status.
