Overview
Individual sought for a large construction/installation company in the DMV. The ideal candidate will be proficient in computer-aided design (CAD) software, with experience in creating precise technical drawings and designs for various manufacturing and construction projects. This role requires attention to detail, an understanding of engineering concepts, and the ability to collaborate with engineers and other team members to produce high-quality, functional designs. The Draftsman will use CAD software to translate engineering ideas and concepts into detailed technical drawings, ensuring designs meet project requirements, standards, and specifications. Additionally, the role includes assisting in the preparation of design calculations, schematics, and other documents needed for the production process. Key Responsibilities:
CAD Design & Drafting:
Create and modify detailed 2D and 3D technical drawings, schematics, and layouts using CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or other similar platforms). Prepare drawings for structural, mechanical, or electrical systems, ensuring accuracy and adherence to project specifications. Produce design drawings for manufacturing, assembly, or construction teams to follow. Revise and update existing CAD models and drawings as necessary, based on changes or project feedback.
Collaboration with Engineering Teams:
Work closely with engineers, project managers, and other design professionals to ensure the accuracy and feasibility of designs. Attend design reviews and meetings to discuss design concepts, revisions, and project progress. Provide technical support and assist in problem-solving during the design or manufacturing phases.
Technical Documentation:
Prepare and maintain project documentation, including design files, drawings, and specifications. Ensure that all documentation meets company standards, regulatory requirements, and industry guidelines. Assist in creating technical reports, design calculations, and other related documentation as needed.
Quality Control & Compliance:
Ensure that all drawings comply with relevant industry standards and codes, including ISO, ASME, AWS, and other regulatory requirements. Perform regular checks on drawings for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with design specifications. Assist in the development and maintenance of internal CAD standards and practices.
3D Modeling & Simulation (if applicable):
Utilize 3D CAD software to create models and simulations for design testing, analysis, and presentation. Conduct design evaluations to ensure structural integrity and manufacturability before moving to production. Provide support for prototyping and manufacturing processes by supplying necessary CAD data and models.
File Management:
Maintain and organize digital files of all drawings, models, and related documents. Use proper version control and naming conventions for file management. Ensure that CAD files are shared with appropriate stakeholders, ensuring smooth workflow between design, engineering, and production teams.
Qualifications:
Education & Certification:
High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associates or Bachelor’s degree in Drafting, Engineering Technology, or a related field is preferred. Certification in CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, etc.) is a plus. Experience in drafting, design, or a related field is highly preferred.
Experience:
3+ years of experience in drafting and design, ideally in a manufacturing, construction, or engineering environment. Proficiency with CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar platforms). Experience in creating and modifying both 2D and 3D drawings and models.
Skills:
Strong proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar). Solid understanding of engineering drawings, blueprints, and schematics. Ability to interpret and apply engineering concepts and specifications. Familiarity with design standards, industry codes, and regulatory requirements. Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting.
Preferred Skills:
Experience with other design or simulation software (e.g., Revit, Inventor, CATIA). Familiarity with manufacturing processes and materials. Knowledge of 3D modeling, parametric design, and product lifecycle management (PLM) systems.
