Responsibilities

• Operate heavy motorized equipment such as articulated dump trucks, water wagons, hydraulic excavators, asphalt paver, bulldozer, landfill compactor, milling machine, motor grader, scraper.
• Coordinate actions to attach, set up, start, stop, position, guide, and manipulate equipment to dig, push, pile, or load materials.
• Monitor instruments and adjust speed, flow, temperature, and pressure of materials.
• Sub‑grade streets for paving, grade and blade dirt streets and alleys, de‑silts basins.
• Cut and fill water and sewer lines, lay water and sewer mains, excavate roadbeds.
• Inspect worksite before, during, and after activities and recommend and undertake work according to priorities.
• Supervise or direct laborers and other workers in routine work assignments.
• Inspect, clean, grease, and fuel equipment and perform basic preventative maintenance and minor repair work.
• Engage in manual labor as necessary and interact with other departments, employees, contractors, vendors, or public.

Qualifications

• Two (2) years of experience operating medium or heavy equipment; or one (1) year of experience and completion of City of El Paso Heavy Equipment Operator Trainee program.
• Valid Texas Class "B" Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or equivalent. May require Texas Class "A" CDL or Municipal Solid Waste Operator Class C License.
• CDL may require specialized endorsements depending on assignment area.
• Positions requiring a CDL or safety‑sensitive are subject to drug and alcohol testing and criminal background check.
• Must pass eligible federal security clearance for airport work if required.
