Job Summary

Safely operates a variety of heavy equipment, including but not limited to backhoes, excavators, dozers, loaders, graders, haul trucks, and water trucks. Responsible for preventative maintenance and pre-shift walk-around of the assigned equipment to ensure safe operation.

• Maintain positive working relationships with all members of the crew.
• Produce high-quality work safely and productively at all times.
• Provide feedback to ensure all materials, tools, equipment, and information are available for the work.
• Look for opportunities for improvement in all tasks, means, and methods regarding the work and be willing to learn from others.
• Share knowledge and teach others.
• Maintain high proficiency in all related equipment preventative maintenance.
• Inspect subordinates' work, ensure accuracy and compliance with plans and specifications, explain deficiencies, and take corrective actions as needed.
• Eliminate waste such as waiting, rework, transporting, material storage, and time.

Minimum Job Requirements

• Minimum of three years (Level I), four years (Level II), five years (Level III), or six plus years of experience in the industrial/commercial construction industry with an in-depth understanding of heavy construction equipment operation.
• Ability to read and understand drawings, specifications, safety, and quality standards; effectively utilize all relevant trade tools and equipment.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Physical Requirements

• Work up to a 12-hour shift doing physically demanding work in varying temperatures and outdoor conditions.
• Climb and maintain balance on steel/wood frameworks, stairs, ladders, and scaffolds.
• Lift, push, or pull objects up to 50 lbs. occasionally.
• Use hands frequently to grasp, lift, handle, carry, or feel objects.
• Comply with all safety standards and procedures.
• Reach above shoulder heights and below the waist frequently.
• Stoop, kneel, or bend occasionally.
• Wear personal protective equipment as required (steel-toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, hardhat, vest, etc.).
• Navigate confined, cluttered, and uneven areas.

Safety Level

Safety-sensitive role, involving tasks that could affect safety and health, such as operating machinery, handling hazardous materials, or maintaining equipment.
