This role is ideal for someone with a strong background in Continuous Improvement (CI) and Process Optimization within a CNC machine shop environment.

As a key member of the engineering team, you’ll evaluate existing manufacturing processes, implement sustainable improvements, and develop best practices to enhance efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness. You’ll be hands‑on in driving lean initiatives, collaborating cross‑functionally to resolve production challenges, and continuously advancing manufacturing capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage CI projects and Kaizen events focused on optimizing machining and assembly processes.
  • Conduct time studies, machine/process capability analyses, and implement actionable improvements.
  • Develop and maintain accurate production routings, ensuring alignment with APQP and PPAP standards.
  • Collaborate with QC, engineering, and production teams to optimize in‑process inspections and workflow.
  • Provide technical support for CNC programming, tooling selection, fixture design, and equipment performance optimization.
  • Identify and justify capital equipment investments and participate in plant layout improvements.
  • Support initiatives to reduce scrap, rework, and setup times, while maximizing tooling life and minimizing costs.
  • Maintain ISO 9001 compliance by supporting internal audits and contributing to risk assessments and preventive maintenance planning.

Requirements

  • Continuous Improvement / Process Improvement experience in a CNC machine shop is required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering preferred, or equivalent technical education with relevant hands‑on experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in a machine shop/manufacturing environment, preferably with exposure to ISO 9001 or similar quality standards.
  • Strong proficiency in SolidWorks (3D & 2D) or comparable CAD software for fixture design and mechanical drawings.
  • Demonstrated experience in machining process development, particularly with lathe operations and steel materials, including heat treatment considerations.
  • Strong understanding of Lean Manufacturing principles, including 5S, Kaizen, and value stream mapping.
  • Excellent ability to read, interpret, and apply complex technical drawings and manufacturing specifications.
  • Experience working cross‑functionally with engineering, production, and quality teams to drive measurable improvements.
