Position Overview We are seeking a motivated, experienced
Certified Medical Coder | Physician Practice Complex Coder
(3+ years of Cardiology Complex Coding experience, ideally Surgical Cardiology) with a current
Certified Professional Coder (CPC)
in active status.
Responsibilities
Evaluates medical records and provides clinical and surgical abstraction for complex and/or multispecialty surgical, procedural and E&M professional services.
Accurately codes diagnostic and procedural information in accordance with national coding guidelines and reimbursement requirements.
Consults with medical providers to clarify missing or inadequate record information.
Provides thorough, timely, and accurate coding in accordance with department productivity and quality standards.
Addresses National Correct Coding Initiative (NCCI) edits and reconciles charges as required.
Abstracts clinical data into electronic medical records, ensuring complete records.
Provides quality assurance for medical records and ensures compliance with coding rules and regulations.
Compiles daily and monthly reports for research or analysis purposes.
Identifies validation edits and revision issues for compliant coding.
Works independently under supervision, using specialized knowledge for accurate assignment of ICD/CPT codes.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma/GED or equivalent with specialized formal training in medical record keeping, anatomy, physiology, pathology, medical terminology, and classification of diagnoses and operations, or an Associate’s degree in a related healthcare field.
Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Coding Specialist – Physician (CCS‑P), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) in active status with AAPC or AHIMA.
Minimum three years of complex professional coding experience within specialty.
Demonstrated knowledge of ICD and CPT coding principles as recommended by the American Health Information Management Association.
Ability to work effectively in a remote setting using common office programs, coding software, and abstracting systems.
Preferred Qualifications
Specialty Certification such as Radiology Certified Coder (RCC).
Experience in a large, multi-system physician practice.
Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
Employment Details Hours: Flexible 8‑hour shift between 5 am – 7 pm (Monday‑Friday). Fully remote position available for residents of listed US states.
