Job Overview The Blood Bank Medical Technologist performs routine and complex patient/sample pre‑analytical and post‑analytical compatibility tests using automated and non‑automated methods, proficiency tests, quality control, preventative maintenance per established policies and procedures. Responsibilities include transporting blood products, specimen tubes and/or supplies to/from hospital customer Transfusion Departments, fixed sites and/or mobile operations; performing donor medical interviews; and performing whole blood and donor apheresis procedures.
Qualifications
BA/BS Degree in Medical Technology and/or related science.
2 to 3 years clinical laboratory experience.
2‑3 years Blood Bank experience.
National Certification (preferred).

Variable Days/Hours
Weekend/Holidays required
Essential Functions
Perform all testing as per standard operating procedures and bench work in all trained areas.
Maintain desired turn‑around times and serve as a resource person for technical questions and problem resolution.
Troubleshoot problem specimens, interact with medical staff and hospital staff as necessary.
Assist in training and orienting new lab employees, hospital employees and students.
Perform and document quality control and proficiency testing, resolving failures with corrective action.
Ensure integrity and appropriate use of all IT systems, accurately enter or modify results, and monitor testing turn‑around times.
Verify instrument calibration, maintenance, and scheduled quality control before analysis.
Communicate testing issues and maintenance requirements to the supervisor or designee.
Provide oversight of technical operations in the absence of the supervisor.
Demonstrate leadership skills, solve problems under stress, accept constructive feedback, and promote excellence within the section.
