St. Joseph Hearing + Speech is seeking an experienced Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to join our leadership team and help steward the organization’s financial health and long-term sustainability. The ideal candidate will bring proven nonprofit experience with grants, contracts, and diverse funding streams—along with a collaborative spirit and deep alignment with the mission and values that guide our work. Job Summary

The Chief Financial Officer holds a vital leadership role within the organization, guiding the strategic financial direction and ensuring the long‑term fiscal health and sustainability of St. Joseph Hearing + Speech in support of its Catholic mission. This position is responsible for aligning financial strategy with the organization’s values, goals, and service to others. By overseeing financial planning, budgeting, reporting, and risk management, the CFO ensures that resources are stewarded responsibly, ethically, and transparently. Collaboration with other senior leaders to integrate financial insights into organizational decision‑making is a key aspect of the role. Additionally, the CFO promotes a culture of accountability and stewardship, continuously strengthening financial systems and developing innovative strategies that sustain and advance the organization’s mission‑driven work. This position will supervise a small team and reports to the President. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Financial Leadership & Strategy

Provide strategic financial leadership aligned with the organization’s mission, values, and long‑term goals. Oversee all accounting and finance functions, ensuring integrity, accuracy, and efficiency of financial operations. Lead the development, monitoring, and reporting of the annual budget in collaboration with leadership. Regularly assess organizational performance against the annual budget and long‑term strategic plan. Maintain and update cash flow projections; ensure responsible stewardship of assets and liquidity. Serve as a trusted advisor to the Leadership Team and Board on financial strategy, sustainability, and risk management. Support strategic decision‑making through data‑driven financial insights and analysis. Ensure continuous improvement to maximize efficiencies. Financial Management & Reporting

Ensure the accuracy, timeliness, and usefulness of financial reporting for internal and external stakeholders, including funders, foundations, and the Board of Directors. Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, including budget‑to‑actual analyses and department‑level forecasts. Develop and maintain robust internal controls, accounting policies, and financial procedures. Manage the general ledger and all reconciliations, ensuring compliance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards. Supervise preparation of monthly and year‑end adjustments, journal entries, and balance sheet analyses. Responsible for management of all grant budgets and timely reporting. Maintenance and tracking of all Certificates of Insurance. Compliance, Audit & Risk Management

Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, with particular attention to nonprofit and tax‑exempt requirements. Oversee preparation and filing of required forms, including Form 990, 1099s/1096, and 5500 (for 403(b) plan). Facilitate annual financial audits and grant‑specific audits; coordinate with external auditors to ensure timely completion. Conduct and oversee the annual workers’ compensation audit. Monitor adherence to accounting standards, donor restrictions, and regulatory guidelines. Manage risk by maintaining appropriate insurance coverage and developing risk mitigation strategies. Operational Oversight

Supervise and develop the finance team; foster a culture of accountability, professional growth, and collaboration. Oversee cash management, accounts payable/receivable, and payroll functions. Ensure accurate integration of donor management systems (e.g., Raiser’s Edge NXT) with accounting software. Oversee and manage all financial databases. Manage key vendor and service provider relationships, including banks, auditors, and insurance brokers. Support negotiation and management of major contracts and service agreements. Provide timely responses to financial inquiries from staff, leadership, and external partners. Board & Stakeholder Relations

Prepare and present quarterly financial reports to the Finance Committee and Board of Directors. Collaborate with board committees on strategic financial planning, investment oversight, and audit processes. Communicate complex financial information in a clear, mission‑centered manner. Additional/Recommended Responsibilities

Lead or support initiatives to enhance financial literacy across the organization. Evaluate and implement financial technology solutions to improve efficiency and data integrity. Oversee financial aspects of strategic partnerships, grants, and new program initiatives. Participate in long‑range planning and capital improvement projects. Ensure that financial practices reflect the organization’s Catholic values of stewardship and transparency. Support organizational culture by modeling integrity, service, and mission‑driven leadership. Education, Training and/or Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance, MBA preferred, CPA a plus. 7+ years of experience in nonprofit accounting in a leadership role. 5+ years of experience managing a team. Advanced level of knowledge and experience using MS Office programs, Financial Edge NXT or similar accounting software, Raisers Edge NXT or similar donor database software. Working knowledge of contracts and non‑profit laws and regulations. Commitment to the organization’s mission, vision, and values. Ability to sit for extended periods of time and to move intermittently throughout the workday. Ability to operate office equipment, including computers, copiers, fax machines, and phones. Ability to lift up to 10 pounds. Ability to travel approximately 25%. Compensation

Starting salary is $95,200 with a range of up to a maximum of $124,500 depending on experience (salary will be pro‑rated based on part‑time status). Benefits Summary
