We are on the hunt for a strategic, hands‑on Controller for one of our PE‑backed oil & gas/environmental services clients after a recent transaction. The Controller will be coming in to help develop and modernize the accounting team and processes, including an existing list of action items and identifying areas for process improvement.
Base Pay Range : $200,000.00/yr – $250,000.00/yr
Compensation : $200–250K base salary + 20–30% bonus + potential equity.
Travel : Initial travel required to Louisiana, which will incrementally be pared down over time.
Key Responsibilities
Assess current accounting team structure and capabilities; identify gaps and lead the recruitment, training, and development of a high‑performing team.
Build a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.
Oversee all general ledger activities and the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
Ensure timely and accurate month‑end and year‑end close processes.
Coordinate and manage annual audit and tax filings with external auditors.
Evaluate, design, and implement efficient accounting processes, internal controls, and standard operating procedures.
Lead the selection or optimization of accounting systems/ERP to support growth and operational needs.
Establish KPIs and dashboards to improve transparency and decision‑making across finance.
Collaborate cross‑functionally with operations, HR, legal, and executive leadership to align accounting practices with business operations.
Provide insights into cost control, margin analysis, and working capital management.
Support budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management initiatives.
Ensure compliance with industry‑specific regulations including environmental reporting, oil & gas accounting standards, and state/federal tax requirements.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA strongly preferred).
8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 3+ years in a Controller or Assistant Controller role.
Prior experience in environmental services, oil & gas, or a similarly regulated, asset‑heavy industry preferred.
Proven track record of building or restructuring accounting teams and processes.
Strong knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, and audit practices.
