Job Overview Alta Group is seeking an experienced and detail‑driven Construction Accountant/Bookkeeper to oversee all aspects of financial operations for our growing remodeling and construction divisions. This is a pivotal role for a hands‑on accounting professional who thrives in a fast‑paced, collaborative environment and enjoys balancing daily accounting execution with strategic financial oversight.

Key Responsibilities
Accounting & Bookkeeping
Manage the full accounting cycle including A/P, A/R, bank reconciliations, journal entries, and monthly closings.
Maintain QuickBooks Online with complete accuracy—ensuring all transactions are coded correctly by job, cost code, and department.
Review and approve expense coding and ensure accurate integration between QuickBooks, Buildertrend, and other systems.
Reconcile credit card, vendor, and bank accounts monthly and maintain accurate Work in Progress (WIP) reports.
Payroll & HR Integration
Process payroll in‑house and ensure all taxes, deductions, and filings are completed accurately and on time.
Manage PTO, benefits deductions, and compliance with state and federal employment tax regulations.
Tax & Compliance
Prepare and file all company‑related taxes (federal, state, B&O, and sales tax).
Manage 1099s, W‑9s, and vendor insurance documentation.
Ensure compliance with GAAP standards and company financial policies.
Collaborate with external CPA for annual reviews and strategic planning.
Financial Reporting & Strategy
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow, WIP).
Conduct variance and budget analysis to guide leadership decisions.
Manage cash flow forecasting and provide visibility into upcoming obligations.
Support executive leadership with financial modeling, growth projections, and cost control strategies.
Leadership & System Development
Supervise and mentor accounting staff, developing SOPs and internal controls.
Maintain system integrations between Buildertrend, QuickBooks, HubSpot, and Construction Clock.
Provide financial guidance to project managers to ensure job costing accuracy and profitability.
Qualifications
Required
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
5+ years of full‑cycle accounting experience (bookkeeping, payroll, tax filing)
Advanced proficiency with QuickBooks Online and construction job costing
Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting
Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills
Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment
Preferred
CPA or EA certification (or equivalent experience)
Experience in construction, restoration, or real estate development
Familiarity with Buildertrend, HubSpot, and Google Workspace
Prior leadership experience managing small accounting teams
