Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent.
Position Summary Under the general supervision of the laboratory PI, the Laboratory Manager supports and facilitates the lab’s day‑to‑day activities and long‑term research goals. Responsibilities include ensuring compliance with university safety standards, maintaining lab facilities, and assisting with entomological and ecological research projects.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of biology, ecology, entomology, and chemistry principles.
Proficiency in laboratory techniques and equipment maintenance.
Experience troubleshooting laboratory equipment.
Demonstrated organizational and data management skills.
Experience handling and rearing live specimens, especially insects.
Good communication skills.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
Physical Demands
Extended periods of sitting at a desk/microscope.
Travel to and from meetings.
Handling of stinging insects.
Handling of hazardous chemicals.
Moderate lifting, loading, and transportation of boxes and equipment.
Driving as needed to perform job duties.
Duties and Responsibilities Laboratory Management (40%)
Ensure lab compliance with health and safety standards and coordinate yearly inspections.
Oversee chemical inventory, develop annual Chemical Safety Plan, and manage hazardous waste.
Maintain institutional biosafety compliance, update biosafety manual, and coordinate biosafety trainings.
Manage lab stock and inventory of materials and facilities.
Maintain and troubleshoot laboratory equipment.
Update laboratory safety manual and MSDS for Right To Know compliance.
Scientific Research (30%)
Assist on research projects using parasitological assays, microscopy, insect identification, and basic chemistry.
Maintain and acquire live insect populations in field and lab settings.
Purchasing and Clerical Duties (20%)
Purchase lab materials within budget, manage grants, and follow budgeting guidelines.
Communicate with lab members to identify equipment and supply needs.
Complete required trainings and maintain lab members’ training records.
Handle general clerical deskwork as needed.
Collaborative Group Work (10%)
Attend or arrange lab meetings, emails, and check‑ins.
Assist in scheduling meetings or events/logistics.
