About the Role Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems is seeking an Aircraft Mechanic 3 or 4 (Structures) to join the F‑35 O‑Level maintenance team at NAS Lemoore, CA. The role involves performing maintenance, repair, launch, and recovery activities on F‑35 aircraft, configuration for modifications, and ensuring aircraft are in safe, optimal mechanical condition. The position requires a Secret clearance, physical capability, and the ability to work flexible shifts.

Relocation & Travel Relocation assistance may be available. The role requires travel up to 10% of the time.

Responsibilities

Perform maintenance, repair, launch, and recovery activities on F‑35 aircraft.

Configure aircraft for modifications, removal and installation of attaching hardware, component removal and installations, assist with software uploads, and conduct system operational checkouts.

Ensure aircraft are in exceptional mechanical condition by performing maintenance, inspections, and servicing requirements on all aircraft systems according to JTD and applicable guidance.

Assist with OJT training for team members and partner aircraft maintenance personnel.

Maintain and update aircraft records and status within the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) of ALIS.

Keep production staff updated on aircraft status.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Aircraft Maintenance Manager.

Perform required Nose‑to‑Tail maintenance as part of F‑35 Contractor Logistics Support (CLS) performing organizational‑level modifications.

Obtain special certifications (e.g., confined space, borescope, Hyd Contam) as locally required.

Obtain Collateral Duty Inspector Qualification within 6–18 months of start date.

Obtain and maintain Confined Space and Ground Support Equipment Qualifications in support of F‑35 Maintenance.

Read and interpret technical data and blueprint drawings.

Perform fault isolation, troubleshooting, and repair of system failures detected during operational checks associated with modifications and restoration of aircraft to flying condition.

Interpret and use test equipment; work from wiring diagrams, engineering drawings, job guides, and maintenance manuals.

Align parts on jigs using templates and fixtures.

Perform minor part‑fitting operations (filing, sawing, burring, crimping, trimming, framing, riveting, drilling, reaming).

Measure parts with micrometers and calipers to verify dimensions.

Modify incomplete and complete assemblies to incorporate changes to structure.

Monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical processes or other control procedures.

Perform maintenance, dis‑assembly, re‑work, repair, replacement, re‑assembly or adjustment of various aircraft systems in accordance with technical specifications, engineering instructions, and regulations.

Troubleshoot, repair, and service aircraft systems and conduct diagnosis of malfunctions.

Install detailed parts such as shims, splices, gussets, angles, brackets, doublers, and patches.

Modify major structural components (ribs, stiffeners, longerons, straps, skins) using shop aids to facilitate assembly and installations as required.

Modify composite aircraft parts and assemblies while exercising knowledge of bonding practices, procedures, layouts, and locating parts and material for exacting fit.

Read and interpret engineering drawings, structure repair manuals, and understand symbols, flags, and general notes.

Identify aircraft locations by station, butt‑line, and waterline as shown on engineering documentation and technical orders.

Utilize precision measuring instruments, micrometers, calipers, tape measures, and standard scales.

Use tools such as drills, angle motors, shears, drill press, and pneumatic riveter.

Work with aircraft materials such as aluminum, steel, titanium, plastic, and advanced composites.

Practice good housekeeping and follow safety procedures.

Be available for temporary duty assignments and provide temporary support to other CLS locations.

Work flexible shifts, including extended shifts, holidays, weekends, and on‑call status 24/7/365; able to work 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and weekend shifts.

NOTE:

This requisition may be filled at a higher level based on qualifications below. Basic Qualifications

Aircraft Mechanic 3: High School diploma or GED plus 4 years of mechanical/aircraft airframe, power plants, turboprop, avionics, and/or crew chief experience.

Aircraft Mechanic 4: High School diploma or GED plus 6 years of mechanical/aircraft airframe, power plants, turboprop, avionics, and/or crew chief experience.

Active DoD Secret clearance or higher (background investigation completed within the last 6 years or enrolled in Continuous Evaluation).

Ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance within a reasonable time.

Physical ability to perform moderate strenuous work: bending, stooping, kneeling, lifting up to 50 lb, working overhead.

Ability to access small, confined spaces and work in an enclosed environment.

Pass medical/respiratory evaluation for respirator clearance and compliance with respirator fitting requirements.

Pass New Hire Physical (5‑year flightline physical, audiogram, color vision testing) prior to start.

Preferred Qualifications

US Navy or Marine Corps CDI, Air Force 5 or 7 Level, or equivalent Airframe and Power Plant (A&P) Certification.

6–8 or more years of F‑22 or F‑35 airframe and/or crew chief experience.

US Navy or US Marine Corps experience with thorough understanding of F‑35 Fighter Aircraft Systems and operations under COMNAVAIRFORINST 4790.2 and 4790.35.

Heavy mods or aircraft depot experience.

Experience in a military‑focused customer‑service industry.

Experienced user of Microsoft Office.

Understanding of Nose‑to‑Tail maintenance concept.

Salary & Benefits Primary Level Salary Range: $61,700.00 – $102,800.00 Secondary Level Salary Range: $73,400.00 – $122,300.00

Salary is based on factors such as scope, responsibilities, and experience. Employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, discretionary bonuses, and long‑term incentives.
