Summary The Process Engineering Technician assists Engineering in the onboarding of exciting new programs supporting the Mil‑Aero, Defense, and Space sector customers through product development, creating & maintaining work instructions, qualification testing, prototype construction, customer return resolutions, and process/productivity improvements. This role supports plant safety, product quality, manufacturing/prototype order on‑time delivery, and continuous improvement projects within their assigned area of responsibility. The role requires strong collaboration and organizational skills.
Essential Job Functions
Completion of 1st build and New Product Introduction in accordance with customer requirements
Set up and operate equipment such as molding/potting equipment, solder stations, electronic or pneumatic crimp tooling, and test equipment as necessary for prototype constructions, product development and process/productivity improvements
Understand and interpret product/work order requirements, product inspection techniques and test procedures
Review customer data packets: drawings, parts lists, specifications, and manufacturing standards
Support production operators through clarification and demonstration of documentation, process, and procedures
Observe production runs for compliance with proper methods and procedures
Participate in value stream team, productivity, product quality, safety, and waste meetings/projects
Compile, analyze, and summarize process data
Create Standard Work documentation to support production
Involve in continuous improvement exercises and projects to meet metric expectations
Other duties may be assigned

Education / Experience Level I – Engineering Technician I – 0‑3 years – High school diploma or GED with 1 year of CIT DSC Technician experience or Lead OJT, or 1 year external cable & wire harness technician job experience, or AA/AAS Degree (no technician experience required).
Level II – Engineering Technician II – 3‑5 years – High school diploma or GED AND 3‑5 years of experience in a cable & wire harness engineering technician role, or BS degree in a technical discipline (excluding BSEE or BSME) with no technician experience required.
Level III – Engineering Technician III – 5+ years – High school diploma or GED AND 5+ years of experience in a cable & wire harness engineering technician role, or BS degree in a technical discipline with 3+ years of technician experience, or BSME/BSEE degree (no technician experience required).
Specific Competencies
Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English
Interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form
Read and interpret customer drawings, wire schematics, and technical documentation
Use appropriate tooling and manufacturing processes to build cable and wire harnesses in accordance with customer specifications and expectations
Apply algebraic and statistical tools for analysis of product and process
Write reports, business correspondence, and procedures
Use MS Office software including Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint
Use project‑management tools such as charters and Smartsheet
Hands‑on experience with solder, crimp, banding & securing tooling
Preferred Skills & Experience
IPC‑A‑620, J‑STD‑001, Space Addendum and/or NASA 8739.4 certifications
Electrical testing for continuity, open/short, miss‑wire, insulation resistance, HIPOT
Experience with circumferential test equipment, milliohm bond testing, multimeter
Hands‑on experience with soldering and crimping of wires and interconnect devices
Physical Demands
Hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear
Stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl regularly
Occasionally lift or move up to 50 lbs
Vision: close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, focus
Work Environment/Conditions This is an air‑conditioned facility with many pieces of equipment that produce heat. Potential hazards include fumes, dust, noise, and hazardous/toxic chemicals. Appropriate training and OSHA/EPA compliance are provided.
Personal Protective Equipment Requirements ASTM F‑2412‑2005, ANSI Z41‑1999, or ANSI Z41‑1991 rated safety‑toed shoes and clear ANSI Z87.1 safety‑rated glasses.
