About The Unit 6 North is a Cardiovascular inpatient unit within Butterworth Hospital that specializes in caring for adult patients with Heart Failure, cardiac dysrhythmias, newly implanted pacemakers and defibrillators, pulmonary hypertension and other cardiac conditions requiring medical treatment. Most patients receive continuous telemetry monitoring. The unit offers a broad variety of cardiovascular and progressive care experiences that foster a robust skill set. The culture of this unit is team‑work and support, with staff working closely with physicians and other healthcare providers to provide optimal care in the inpatient setting.
Scope of Work Nurse Technicians act as a team member in the delivery of quality patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN). Responsibilities include taking vitals, checking blood sugars, bed bathing, ambulating, wound care, catheterization and serving as a safety attendant for patients. They articulate the nursing technician role to patients, families and health team members, provide support to facilitate safe, quality patient care cost‑effectively, clean patient environments, work areas and equipment, and report any equipment malfunctions to the appropriate department. They demonstrate a high standard of moral and ethical behavior and advocate for privacy, confidentiality and security of patient, staff and organization data.
Orientation
Week 1: Classroom orientation 8:00 am–4:30 pm on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday
Week 2: On‑unit orientation shifts 7:00 am–7:30 pm
Week 3: Classroom orientation Monday 8:00 am–4:30 pm focused on Advanced Safety Care
Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent experience required
Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) required within 90 days
Previous experience in patient care preferred
