Orthopedics Medical Assistant - Dedham Location Veterans in Healthcare is looking for an Orthopedics Medical Assistant to join our Dedham clinic. This role supports smooth and efficient practice operations, provides administrative and clinical assistance, and helps ensure an exceptional patient experience.

Job Type:

Per Diem, Part Time – Day shift (United States).

FLSA Status:

Non‑Exempt.

Essential Responsibilities:

Performs medical assisting duties: vital signs, height and weight, EKGs, phlebotomy and assisting during routine procedures.

Ensures patient care areas are clean, organized and stocked; escorts patients to ancillary service areas such as radiology and lab.

Performs point‑of‑care testing, implements quality control standards and provides patients with relevant instructions for tests and procedures.

Monitors and maintains medical equipment and supplies, ensuring they are clean, sterilized, stocked and within expiration dates.

Performs initial review of medication lists in the electronic medical record for final review by licensed practitioners; may retrieve Schedule VI and over‑the‑counter medications under supervision of licensed providers.

Uses the electronic medical record system (OMR) to queue prescription renewals for licensed provider review and to enter orders for tests, services or appointments in OMR; documents tasks accurately for proper billing.

Prepares schedules, patient charts and other documents for clinical activities, and procures and correlates medical correspondence as directed.

Monitors patients and visitors entering, waiting and leaving the practice; facilitates timely flow and informs patients and providers of delays; answers and screens telephone calls.

Required Qualifications:

High School diploma or GED.

Basic familiarity with computers; ability to navigate web‑based applications at a basic level.

At least 5 months of direct patient‑care experience in a clinical or research setting (e.g., medical assistant, patient‑care technician, clinical nursing assistant, nursing or medical student with one clinical rotation).

Preferred Qualifications:

MA, EMT, CNA or LNA certificate, or Associate’s Degree in Medical Assisting.

Phlebotomy certificate.

All staff are required to be vaccinated against influenza as a condition of employment.
