Principal Systems Engineer – Tactical Networks (TACNET) Capabilities Based In‑Service Engineering Agent (CB‑ISEA)
Location: San Diego, CA and/or Virginia Beach, VA. Hybrid/Remote work is available. Travel: up to 10% CONUS.
Job Description: SAIC seeks an experienced Systems Engineer to support the Tactical Networks (TACNET) capability, sustaining and modernizing advanced naval networks such as ADNS, CANES, CENTRIXS, ISNS, and SCI. The role requires working closely with sustainment engineering and development teams to engineer solutions, employ DevOps practices, and maintain critical mission‑essential services at sea.
Responsibilities
Support TACNET CB‑ISEA and provide system‑life‑cycle software engineering for NAVWAR/NIWC customers.
Focus on software components for tactical networks, sustaining CANES systems and performing EOS component replacements.
Provide Tier II troubleshooting, both remotely and on‑site.
Analyze failure data, generate reports, and identify system deficiencies.
Propose and peer‑review solutions, work with production engineers to implement changes.
Create and update engineering documentation and manage solutions through configuration management.
Attend technical meetings, prepare briefs, and provide presentations.
Participate in Integrated Product Teams (IPT), Technical Working Groups, and engineering/design review meetings.
Support system installations, configuration management enforcement, sustainment, upgrades, and emergency casualty support.
Develop, integrate, debug, and tune software solutions for Windows and RedHat/Linux environments.
Perform root‑cause analysis and recommend permanent configuration changes.
Apply pattern‑based architecture, governance, and security for system changes.
Use Atlassian tools (JIRA) for Agile and sprint‑based operations.
Lead source‑code deployments across classification levels.
Estimate durations for low‑level work products and support scope documentation.
Collaborate with external partners, consultants, and vendors on system integration design.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree and nine (9) years of related experience, or equivalent experience.
U.S. Citizen.
Active Secret Clearance required.
Experience with DoD C4ISR systems (ISNS, CANES, ADNS, SCI, CENTRIXS, ORT).
Four or more years in a DevOps environment, familiar with Agile practices.
Two years of scripting (PowerShell, XML) and automation.
Two years of LAN design, analysis, and support.
Current IAT Level II (Security +) and OS certifications required; obtain within 6 months if needed.
Experience with AWS, Microsoft Azure, and/or Flankspeed Edge cloud environments.
Experience with Microsoft .NET (4.0/C#) and PowerShell.
Experience with Linux programming languages.
Desired Skills
Knowledge of U.S. Navy ship and shore networking systems.
Experience with SCRUM methodologies.
Target Salary Range: $120,001 – $160,000.
