Job Summary Works under broad direction to plan, organize, direct, and participate in the work of a major research project in the field of specialization for which the incumbent is particularly qualified by virtue of extensive training and experience. The Research Scientist Senior position focuses on investigating genetic and epigenetic mechanisms underlying self‑renewal versus differentiation of neural stem cells and how dysregulation leads to benign and malignant tumor formation in the central and peripheral nervous system, particularly in the context of tumor suppressor gene syndromes (NF1, Li‑Fraumeni, tuberous sclerosis complex, APC).

Job Duties

Plan, organize, coordinate, direct, and personally participate in major medical or scientific research projects, including the development and implementation of research protocols.

Review and analyze resulting research data; revise techniques or approaches to problems as indicated by the data.

Prepare or assist in the preparation of research papers, reports, and abstracts for publication as a co‑author.

Design, develop, or adapt equipment used in experiments or research to obtain desired results.

Plan and supervise training of technicians and other laboratory personnel with respect to proper laboratory techniques, equipment use, and safety procedures.

Conferring with industrial, governmental, or other groups concerning progress or results of research projects.

Supervise a large group of employees engaged in performance of technical and professional work ranging from routine to complex laboratory tasks.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Required – Experience and Education

PhD with major coursework in the field of assignment or Master’s degree with major coursework in the field of assignment.

6 years research experience in the field of assignment, including at least 2 years at the level of Research Scientist or its equivalent; or 9 years research experience with a Master’s degree and at least 2 years at the level of Research Scientist.

Preferred

Bachelor’s degree with major coursework in the field of assignment and additional related experience.
