About the City The City of Goldsboro, located in Wayne County, North Carolina, is seeking a
Deputy Chief of Police
to serve as the second‑in‑command of the Goldsboro Police Department. The department is CALEA‑accredited and focuses on integrity, service, and accountability.
Position Summary The Deputy Chief will provide executive‑level leadership and strategic oversight, work closely with the Chief of Police to establish and implement department policies, and manage priority public safety initiatives. The Deputy Chief will supervise division majors, oversee day‑to‑day operations, lead specialized policing efforts, and represent the department in high‑level discussions with city leadership and community stakeholders.
Responsibilities
Supervise division majors and manage personnel, budgets, and crime reduction initiatives.
Implement department policies and ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
Lead and coordinate strategic planning and operational improvement projects.
Represent the department in city meetings, community forums, and law‑enforcement coalitions.
Assume full command of the department in the Chief’s absence and act as senior spokesperson.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, or related field.
Minimum of 12 years of progressively responsible law‑enforcement experience, including at least five years in a command‑level position (Major, Captain, or equivalent).
Current North Carolina law‑enforcement certification or eligibility for certification within one year.
Proven experience managing personnel, budgets, and crime‑reduction initiatives.
Advanced Law Enforcement Certificate preferred.
Preferred Requirements
Master’s degree preferred.
Completion of AOMP, SPI, FBI National Academy, or equivalent executive‑leadership program.
Additional advanced law‑enforcement certifications.
Valid North Carolina driver’s license and residency within a reasonable response time to Goldsboro.
Salary and Benefits Anticipated salary range: $90,513.43 – $117,000. The City offers comprehensive benefits including health and wellness programs, a full‑time occupational health nurse, and other standard municipal benefits.
