Responsibilities

Lead Respiratory Therapist

in Allied Health at GW Hospital. Respiratory Therapists at GWUH are essential partners with providers, nursing, and support staff in an academic medical center. Our RCPs support six intensive care units and pursue opportunities to advance patient care through unit- and system-based quality initiatives, evidence-based research and practice, and interdisciplinary care. Ventilator management, including ARDS protocol and advanced vent modes (APRV, ASV, NAVA) Inhaled Nitric Oxide Administration Airway Clearance Therapies (utilizing an Airway Clearance Protocol) Airway Management Non-Invasive Ventilation Oxygen Therapy Emergency Response Teams Emergency Department Care with Level I Trauma Center Post-Surgical Ventilator Weaning and Care (including open heart surgery, liver transplant) Indirect Calorimetry Bedside pulmonary function tests (PFTs) Inpatient sleep studies Point of Care testing ICU mobilization Multidisciplinary tracheostomy management and speaking valves Education pathways: clinical rotations for local and international respiratory therapy schools; annual respiratory education for nursing and physicians Departmental highlights and environment Level 1 Trauma Center Cardiovascular Surgical Unit Level III NICU Two medical ICUs Trauma/Neuro ICU Pulmonary Care Unit (4 beds) General floors Benefits, Special Incentives & Perks: Commuter Subsidy: $100/month Paid Time Off: 208 hours annually (104 hours part-time) Cutting-Edge Environment with advanced technology and practices Employee Wellness programs via GWU Wellness Center 401(k) with company match up to 6% Comprehensive medical, dental, vision, and prescription plans Shared governance model Career development, continuing education, and mobility opportunities within UHS subsidiaries Employee discounts and additional perks Qualifications Graduation from an approved two-year respiratory therapist program 3+ years of professional experience with progressive leadership background Licensed by the District of Columbia Health Regulation Licensed as an RRT and NBRC approved BLS for Health Care Professionals required ACLS and PALS within six months of hire NRP required for NICU Therapist Excellent critical thinking, communication, and problem-solving skills Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment Strong organizational skills and attention to detail EEO Statement
