INSPECTION SECTION MANAGER (55005629)
Join the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) as an INSPECTION SECTION MANAGER and help ensure the safety, compliance, and high quality of Florida’s bridge infrastructure. This is a full‑time SES position based in District Six – Highway Operations, 1000 NW 111th Ave, Miami, FL 33172.
Responsibilities
Supervise staff in the District’s in‑house Bridge Inspection Program, directing the operation of inspection teams engaged in evaluating bridges and structures.
Establish program priorities and schedules to meet State and Federal guidelines.
Coordinate with area maintenance engineers to secure equipment and personnel for work zone safety during bridge inspection operations.
Supervise employees by communicating, motivating, training, planning, and directing their work.
Schedule, direct, coordinate, and report bridge safety inspections during natural disaster events, including related costs.
Act as Confirming Registered Professional Engineer on in‑house bridge inspection reports; review and initial completed inspection reports compiled by inspection teams.
Supervise the management of consultant inspection contracts.
Supervise and/or perform Quality Inspection Reviews and Quality Assurance Reviews on in‑house bridge inspection teams to ensure inspections meet Federal and State guidelines.
Assist inspectors in recommending necessary preventative maintenance and emergency repairs; serve on the Feasible Action Review Committee.
Manage bridge and ancillary structures databases.
Assist the District Title VI Coordinator in monitoring and reporting the Department’s compliance with Title VI and related statutes.
Qualifications Knowledge Of
Road and bridge design, construction, and maintenance principles; structural components and material properties.
Skills In
Supervision; bridge management software (e.g., PONTIS); reading and interpreting engineering drawings, design and construction specifications, and safety regulations.
Communicating technical matters effectively to a diverse audience.
Ability To
Perform technical engineering inspections of structures; work outside of traffic and over water; track budgets; analyze structures for deficiencies.
Licensure / Registration / Certification Requirements
Registered as a Professional Engineer in accordance with Chapter 471 F.S.
Other Job‑Related Requirements
Must be available to assist the District during declared emergency events.
Must provide Social Security Number for verification purposes.
Male applicants born on or after October 1 1962 must meet Selective Service System requirements as described legally.
