Role Description The primary responsibility of a

Senior Supplier Development Engineer

is to serve as the trusted advisor for the assigned supply base through the following responsibilities: assessing potential suppliers via on-site quality audits, driving implementation of Lean, BIQ, and APQP, assuring production readiness through rigorous review of supplier PPAP submissions, and being recognized as an expert in supplier quality.

Responsibilities

Collaborate with suppliers and engineering to ensure proper process control standards are in place and continuously monitor key manufacturing processes for improvement opportunities.

Document process changes (PCN) with clear scope of current and future states after proposed changes; establish effective validation requirements and evaluate Cpk / Ppk validation data.

Provide technical support during start-up activities and ongoing strategic support.

Review APQP documentation (Process FMEA, Process Control Plans, Gage R&R). Participate in process FMEA for suppliers’ manufacturing processes.

Generate reports on supplier quality by monitoring defect rates and areas for improvement; guide suppliers to reduce these defect rates.

Resolve problems between suppliers, plants, and engineering personnel, and between facilities.

Research and assess potential vendors, and conduct supplier quality control audits to ensure compliance with organizational and federal policies and standards.

Coordinate with engineering on CPPD, NPI, CPI teams; support design-to-production, engineering changes, deviations, supplier designs, and specifications approvals.

Support suppliers in improving performance through process enhancements, implementing process controls, and developing quality assurance plans.

Qualifications

What you have:

Effective Communications: understanding of communication concepts and the ability to convey ideas and needs clearly.

Problem Solving: knowledge of approaches and tools to recognize, anticipate, and resolve problems; apply to diverse situations.

Process Improvement: understanding of evaluating current quality and production methods and focus on continuous improvement.

Quality Orientation: knowledge of quality management methods to meet organizational quality goals.

Production Part Approval Process (PPAP): knowledge of PPAP elements, submissions, and objectives; ability to determine if a supplier can manufacture to required quality standards.

Supplier Management - MFG: ability to manage relationships with suppliers of raw materials or components.

Education

Bachelor’s degree related to Quality, Engineering/Technology, or relevant professional experience

Top Candidates will also have

Masters degree related to Quality, Manufacturing Engineering, or relevant field.

American Society for Quality (ASQ) certification.

Experience with metal forming, fabrications, casting and machining processes.

Additional Information

Travel up to 25% of the time (primarily domestic; some international travel possible).

On-site position available in Lafayette, IN; Mossville, IL (Building AC); Griffin, GA; or Seguin, TX.

On-site five days a week.

Compensation Summary Pay Range:

$126,000.00 - $189,000.00 Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple factors including job level, location, knowledge, skills, performance and experience. Salary is one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
