Job Summary HR Generalist II/Benefits responsible for day‑to‑day administration of employee benefits programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, and ancillary benefits. Duties also include administering leave of absence programs such as FMLA, workers compensation, and short‑ and long‑term disability. This role is crucial in ensuring employees receive comprehensive information and support regarding their benefits, contributing to overall well‑being and satisfaction.

Essential Functions

Administer health, dental, vision, and life insurance plans and oversee retirement plans (403(b), 457(f), 401(a), & pension). Serve as primary liaison with insurance brokers, carriers, and other benefits providers.

Administer leave programs including FMLA, short‑ and long‑term disability, workers compensation, and other leaves of absence.

Provide guidance and support to employees regarding benefits options and processes, conduct orientation sessions for new hires, and assist employees with claims issues, benefits questions, and plan changes.

Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local benefits regulations (ACA, ERISA, HIPAA, FMLA, ADA) and prepare required regulatory reports.

Develop and deliver materials informing employees about benefits updates, organize benefits fairs and wellness programs, and maintain the benefits page on the employee portal.

Administer and maintain benefits administration software (Employee Navigator), ensuring accurate data entry and providing training and support to users.

Research industry trends and best practices, benchmark current offerings, and recommend enhancements to benefits programs.

Lead or participate in HR or college‑wide projects such as software implementations, policy development, and process improvement initiatives.

Serve as backup for Compensation Generalist duties and provide generalist support for Compensation, Recruitment, Employee Relations, and Professional Development.

Job Specifications

Bachelor’s degree in business administration, human resources, or related field preferred; associate degree acceptable with 3–5 years of benefits administration experience.

HR certification (SHRM‑CP, PHR) preferred; benefits‑specific certification (CEBS) a plus.

Experience with health insurance plans, retirement programs, leave policies, and benefits management software (Employee Navigator, ADP, Workday, Banner).

Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook) and strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

Ability to manage confidential information with discretion and to work independently and collaboratively.

Salary $58,489–$76,862.
