Benefits Specialist Location:

Chicago, IL - GOLD COAST (Hybrid – Monday & Friday remote; Tuesday‑Thursday in office)

Compensation:

$30–32/hour

Benefits:

Job Description:

The Benefits Specialist will administer and maintain employee benefit programs while ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations. This role will act as a primary contact for employees and vendors regarding benefit inquiries, claims, enrollment, and leave‑of‑absence programs. The position also supports open enrollment, benefit education, and process improvements within the HR/Benefits team.

Key Responsibilities:

Administer and communicate employee benefits programs, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, retirement plans, short‑ and long‑term disability, and leave programs.

Serve as primary contact for escalated benefit issues with vendors and third‑party administrators.

Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations such as ACA, FMLA, ADA, COBRA, ERISA, Section 125, FLSA, and workers’ compensation requirements.

Lead and support open enrollment processes and related employee communications.

Work with HR Operations and payroll/HRIS teams (UKG preferred) to implement and maintain benefit programs.

Analyze benefits utilization, review billing, and participate in budget discussions.

Assist with leave of absence, disability, and parental leave management.

Support benefits projects and continuous improvement initiatives.

Prepare and conduct employee benefit education sessions.

Qualifications:

Minimum 4 years of benefits administration experience.

Strong working knowledge of federal and state benefits regulations.

Experience managing vendors and third‑party administrators.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and HRIS systems (UKG preferred).

Excellent written and verbal communication, analytical, organizational, and project management skills.

Bachelor’s degree in HR or related field preferred; relevant certifications (SHRM‑CP, CCP, CEBS) a plus.
