Membership Communications Manager – Catholic Financial Life Location: Port Huron, MI

Salary: $5,481.00–$5,985.00

Role Summary The Membership Communications Manager is responsible for all communications that engage and inspire Trusted Fraternal Life’s members while also telling the broader story of our mission impact. This hands‑on role blends editorial leadership, storytelling, and community‑focused communications to highlight the value of membership and the difference our members make in their communities.

A core responsibility is leading the planning, writing, editing, and production of member magazines—published three times per year for each brand—along with managing the overall communications calendar. This role partners closely with the Director of Mission Fulfillment to align communications with events, benefits, chapters, volunteer activities, and community giving, while also amplifying TFL’s community impact through public relations and external storytelling.

The position provides direction and accountability for one Marketing Communications Specialist and freelance contributors, ensuring all member and impact communications are timely, consistent, and mission‑driven.

Responsibilities

Editorial & Publications Leadership

Own the editorial calendar and production process for member publications, ensuring magazines are written, edited, designed, and mailed on time three times per year per brand.

Write, edit, and pitch stories that bring the member experience to life, from benefits and chapters to mission impact.

Ensure publications reflect consistency, quality, and alignment with brand voice.

Member Communications Ownership

Serve as the point person for all member‑facing communications.

Plan and manage communications that increase awareness, participation, and satisfaction with member events, benefits, volunteer activities, and chapters.

Ensure annual reports and impact updates clearly communicate organizational achievements.

Partnership & Alignment

Collaborate closely with the Director of Mission Fulfillment to align communications with chapter activities, volunteer teams, community giving, sponsorships, and foundation donations.

Partner across marketing teams (Brand, Distribution) to ensure cohesion across the full member journey.

People & Project Management

Provide direction, coaching, and accountability for one Marketing Communications Specialist and freelance partners.

Manage timelines, budgets, and deliverables to ensure communications are delivered on time, on brand, and on strategy.

Measurement & Improvement

Track and report KPIs tied to readership, engagement, and retention.

Continuously refine communications approach based on data, feedback, and best practices.

Qualifications & Skills

Must‑haves

7+ years of progressive experience in communications, content strategy, or marketing.

Proven writing, editing, and storytelling skills; experience managing publications.

Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and professional experience.

Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.

Passion for community impact / mission‑driven storytelling.

Experience leading small teams or direct reports (preferred).

Nice‑to‑haves

Knowledge of community engagement, media relations, PR, or mission‑driven communications.

Experience communicating about life insurance, annuities, or financial services.

Experience communicating for a membership‑based organization and/or a not‑for‑profit organization.

Willingness to travel regionally on occasion to cover member events.
