Title: Configuration Manager, Intermediate - Senior
Details:
Status: Full Time (Salary); Exempt
Schedule: 0900hrs - 1730hrs; M-F
Location: On-Site, Aberdeen, MD 21001
Supervisory: No
Position Summary: The full-time, on-site Configuration Manager (CM), Intermediate - Senior, is responsible for overseeing the configuration management (CM) process for hardware, software, and engineering documentation. This role ensures consistency, traceability, and integrity of all configuration items (CIs) including technical data packages, drawings, and change documentation — throughout the product lifecycle. The CM will collaborate with engineering, quality, and production teams to establish, implement, and maintain CM best practices, version control, and formal change management processes in accordance with company and customer standard
Key Roles/Duties:
Configuration and Documentation Management
Maintain configuration baselines for hardware, software, and documentation in accordance with Electronic Industries Alliance (EIA)-649 and Military Standard (MIL-STD)-973 principles
Manage engineering drawings, Bill of Materials (BOMs), specifications, and Technical Data Packages (TDPs) through the document control system
Control release and revision of documentation to ensure only approved and current versions are in use
Configuration Identification and Control
Establish and maintain configuration item lists (CILs) and track all revisions through the lifecycle
Support Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) and Change Orders (ECOs), ensuring traceability between changes, drawings, and work instructions
Administer configuration management tools (ServiceNow, JIRA, Confluence, or equivalent)
Problem and Error Tracking
Identify, track, and report discrepancies between as-designed, as-built, and as-maintained configurations
Support failure investigations and configuration audits to verify accuracy of records and documentation
Coordination and Review
Serve as CM representative on Configuration Control Boards (CCB) and Engineering Review Boards (ERB)
Collaborate with engineering, production, and quality teams to review and approve documentation packages
Technical Requirements and Compliance
Interpret and ensure compliance with technical requirements, specifications, and drawings
Verify all documentation aligns with project standards, customer contracts, and export control [International Traffics in Arms Regulations (ITAR)/Enterprise Archive (EAR)] requirements
Inventory, Equipment, and Revision Maintenance
Ensure test assets and equipment are loaded with the latest approved software and hardware revisions
Track and manage defective hardware through the Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) process
Maintain configuration status accounting for all serialized assets and revisions
Configuration Management: Manage and maintain software and system configurations using industry-standard tools, with a strong preference for experience in ServiceNow, JIRA, or Confluence
Basic Qualifications:
Engineering and technical documentation proficiency
Drawing and TDP management
Department of Defense (DoD)/International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 9001/Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC)/AS9100 environment relevance
Tools and systems alignment [e.g., Product Data Management (PDM), JIRA, ServiceNow, Confluence]
Security clearance and export control compliance language
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience managing engineering documentation and configuration items in a DoD or ISO 9001/AS9100 environment
Configuration Management Principles and Implementation (CMPIC), Configuration Management II (CMII), or equivalent certification
Proficiency in Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems such as SolidWorks PDM, Windchill, or equivalent document control systems
Five (5) + years’ experience of Microsoft Office products
Two (2) + years’ experience providing support for DoD customers
Knowledge of Army and installation acronyms and administrative, industrial, and engineering terminology
Possession of excellent verbal and written communication skills
Travel:
Up to 25% travel is required
Clearance: Active Secret clearance or higher is required
