Job Summary
Assists with moving patients for GI procedures. Assists Endoscopists during the procedure. Follows policies and procedures with care of the endoscope immediately after the procedure, which includes decontaminating, cleaning, high-level disinfecting, documenting, and hanging the scopes in a well-ventilated storage cabinet. Handles specimens in collaboration with the RN. Assists with answering the telephone and helping in Same Day Surgery Department when available. Maintains inventory as needed for the department and orders in a timely manner (including special orders); also returns scopes for repairs and obtains loaners.
Essential Functions
Provide Sterilization and decontamination support to the Endoscopy room, assist nurse with procedure. Provides support with transferring patients. Assist in all areas of Same Day Surgery as needed Maintains National Patient Safety Goals, including participation in the Time Out process Receive assignment and takes direction Assist in other area in Perioperative services Assist in the preparation of the procedure room and assist with patient care Assist with moving patients in GI suite Practices Standard precautions Decontaminates endoscopes in GI suite immediately post- procedure Knowledge of leak testing cleaning scopes in the sink for Steris and OPA Knowledge of cleaning scopes in the sink for Steris and OPA Knowledge of Endoscopy equipment and care, Steris sterilization, EvoTech, OPA, Channel Check, and other supplies Monitors specimen and transports them to lab in a timely manner Manages time efficiently/sets priorities appropriately. Understands role during emergency codes Participates in Quality Improvement Verbalizes unit specific quality improvement projects Verbalizes hospital-wide quality improvement initiatives Assists with the collection, interpretations or reporting of quality improvement Other Duties

Minimum Education/Certifications
High School Diploma or equivalent. Endo Certification required. One year experience preferred. BLS from The American Heart Association required.

Exposed to unpleasant odors, body waste, and communicable diseases. Encounters stress, emergencies, and death. On feet most of the day, lifts patients and moves heavy equipment. Interacts with family, visitors, health team members and other hospital personnel.
