Endoscopy Tech - Adult Endoscopy at OU Health
Location: University of Oklahoma Medical Center
Responsibilities
Under immediate to general supervision, perform duties as an Endoscopic Technician to assist with endoscopic procedures in an operating or procedure room. Receive and distribute endoscopes for procedures.
Delivers audio-visual equipment in designated room/location.
Perform pre-cleaning of endoscopes at bedside or point of use/procedure room.
Maintain appropriate records for inventory reprocessed; monitor expiration dates of processed/disinfected scopes and reprocess expired scopes accordingly.
Perform equipment troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and more complex repairs; ensure timely reprocessing of scopes to meet procedural needs.
Move lights and flat panels to correct locations; operate Medivators Automated Endoscope Reprocessors Advantage Plus; perform duties per manufacturer instructions for use.
Send in repairs for all equipment and obtain loaners; responsible for cleaning, decontamination, assembly, packaging and high-level disinfection of all endoscopes and bronchoscopes.
Aid the endoscopist with instruments and supplies; recognize and correct breaks in sterile technique.
Clean and disinfect contaminated instruments, equipment, and supplies; clean procedure room areas and dispose of soiled linen.
May assist in training GI Technicians.
Assume general responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: HS Diploma or GED. Associate’s degree preferred.
Experience: 0-3 years of relevant healthcare experience or sterile processing or surgical technologist experience preferred.
Licenses/Certifications: Technician certification from Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) as CER or CFER within 12 months of hire date.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: clear writing and comprehension; computer/operator skills; independent work; ability to operate, troubleshoot, and perform minor repairs to audio/video equipment; ability to record procedures with audio/video equipment; ability to operate Steris and autoclave equipment and wrap instruments.
Shift & Location Location: University of Oklahoma Medical Center
Shift Available: Full time (40 hours weekly)
Shift typically starts around 7am with staggered 10-hour shifts.
On-Call starts at 3:30 or end of shift if later; on weekdays until 07:00; weekends 07:00 Saturday to 07:00 Monday. Usually 1 weekend in an 8-week rotation and maybe 5-6 weekdays in that rotation.
Additional Information OU Health’s Adult Endoscopy unit has recently relocated to a newly renovated space at OUMC. This unit provides care for GI and pulmonary endoscopic procedures. The unit includes support from Advanced Practice Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, Surgical Technicians, Care Team Associates, and a Health Unit Coordinator.
