Scope and Purpose:
Under direction of the Director of Quality, the Compliance Technician professional ensures that a company's products and processes adhere to the European Union's REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals) regulation, specifically concerning SVHC's.
Principle Duties and Areas of Responsibility: • Determines whether products contain any SVHC's in excess of the 0.1% weight by weight (w/w) threshold. • Gathers necessary information about chemicals in articles from product development, procurement, and the supply chain. • Reviews Bill of Materials (BOM) and Bill of Substances (BOS) to identify potential risks. • Conducts or coordinates laboratory testing to confirm material composition and SVHC content. • Maintains a database of material compliance data gathered from vendors and partners. • Prepares regulatory submissions for SVHC's. • Ensures Safety Data Sheets (SDS), technical files and Declarations of Conformity are updated. • Discloses the presence of SVHC's in products exceeding 0.1% w/w at the article level to customers and consumers within 45 days of request. • Collaborates with cross-functional teams to implement environmental compliance for new accessory partners an verify results. • Develops and implements risk management strategies for SVHC's. • Regularly monitors the SVHC Candidate List for updates. • Develops a plan for substance replacement or phase-out where necessary. • Conducts supply chain assessments and implements chemical inventory management systems.
Minimum Education and/or Experience Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., science, engineering)
Typically requires 2+ years of experience in a regulated environment, such as GMP.
Relevant professional certifications (e.g., Certified Compliance and Ethics Professional - CCEP) may be advantageous.
Skills and Abilities: • Experience in environmental material or compliance engineering. • Understanding of EU directives on electronics, packaging, and waste. • Knowledge of REACH, SVHC, RoHS, TSCA, Prop 65, PFAS and emissions regulations. • Strong analytical, problem solving, and communication skills. • Experience presenting technical information and working collaboratively in cross-functional teams. • Familiarity with industry tools and databases for materials compliance.
