Description We are looking for a detail-oriented Accounting Manager to oversee financial operations and ensure accuracy in reporting for our organization. Based in Brooklyn, New York, this role involves managing payroll, supervising accounting staff, and maintaining compliance with internal controls and external regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in non-profit accounting, payroll systems, and financial analysis. Responsibilities:
- Manage general ledger activities, including account reconciliations and month-end closing procedures.
- Supervise Accounts Payable and Purchasing staff to ensure timely and accurate processing of payments and purchases.
- Oversee preparation for external audits and ensure financial records are maintained with precision.
- Collaborate with the Chief Financial Officer to produce financial analyses and reports for board meetings and oversight agencies.
- Partner with the CFO and Grants Administrator to track, manage, and report grant-related financial requirements.
- Develop and monitor budgets, providing variance analysis and recommendations for improvements.
- Ensure adherence to financial policies, procedures, and compliance standards.
- Process payroll for over 200 employees, including calculating wages, tax withholdings, and benefit deductions.
- Coordinate with HR to address changes in employee compensation, benefits, and payroll onboarding.
- Identify opportunities to enhance accounting and payroll systems for increased efficiency. Requirements - Proven experience with month-end close procedures and account reconciliations.
- Strong knowledge of financial statement audits and journal entry preparation.
- Familiarity with non-profit accounting practices and grant management.
- Proficiency in payroll systems such as ADP and Paychex, including payroll cycle management.
- Demonstrated ability to supervise and manage accounting staff effectively.
- Excellent analytical skills for budget preparation and variance reporting.
- Strong understanding of internal financial controls and compliance requirements.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive financial information responsibly.
