Principal Administrative Associate III – Deputy Commissioner’s Office
The New York City Department of Homeless Services (DHS) is hiring a Principal Administrative Associate III to provide executive‑level administrative support to the Deputy Commissioner.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Deputy Commissioner by collecting information and data from division directors, tracking work assignments, and communicating with program managers to gather project updates.
- Maintain a complex calendar for the Deputy Commissioner, scheduling executive‑level meetings, coordinating internal and external partners, and arranging community board meetings.
- Handle a broad range of high‑volume, complex priorities and issues from internal and external business partners, determining appropriate follow‑up actions and expediting urgent calls to upper management.
- Act as the Personnel Liaison for the division: compose job descriptions, monitor vacant positions, prepare vacancy justifications, and submit PAR documentation for hiring.
- Draft or review documents including organizational charts, fillable forms, program descriptions, and fact sheets to support executive presentations.
- Complete high‑level administrative tasks and special projects, prepare weekly divisional progress reports, take minutes of senior staff meetings, and follow up on outstanding issues.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college and three years of progressively responsible clerical/administrative experience, with at least one year in an administrative supervisory capacity.
- Associate degree with 60 semester credits and four years of progressively responsible clerical/administrative experience, including one year of administrative supervisory experience.
- Four‑year high school diploma or equivalent with five years of progressively responsible clerical/administrative experience and one year of administrative supervisory experience.
- Equivalent education and experience may be substituted per guidelines.

- Dynamic leadership with proven track record in supporting complex social service programs.
- Excellent critical thinking, strategic planning, and ability to support large‑scale operations.
- Effective anticipation of emerging priorities and coordination of resources.
Work Schedule
Monday – Friday, 9 AM – 5 PM with 24/7 on‑call availability as required.

Salary: $66,062.00 – $75,971.00 (annual)
