As a Heavy Equipment Operator, you'll help maintain the flow of daily waste disposal operations at the City's Transfer Station. You'll safely operate and maintain a variety of equipment and support other functions as needed. Key duties include:
- Operating equipment such as:
- Skid steers
- Rubber-tired front-end loaders
- Tandem dump trucks
- Water trucks
- Rubber-tired excavators and tampers
- Ensuring safe and effective handling of waste material on site.
- Assisting mechanics with basic maintenance and repairs of equipment when necessary.
- Following all safety procedures and verbal/written instructions from supervisors.
- Performing physical labor, including lifting up to 50 pounds and working on uneven terrain.
- Working outdoors in all weather conditions.
- This job is Non-Exempt and is subject to the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA)
- A valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
- The ability to obtain Certified Landfill Operator and Certified Transfer Station Operator credentials through NC-SWANA.
- Flexibility with scheduling, including changes due to operational demands.
- Reliable communication (home or cell phone) and consistent attendance.

- No High School diploma/GED, requires at least 3 years of High School education plus 5+ years of experience operating heavy equipment such as a backhoe, front-end loader, excavator, or skid steer
- Valid Driver's License
- Commercial Driver's License ("OR" the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire)
