Under general supervision, the Janitor is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly work environment throughout the facility. This position performs a variety of cleaning and maintenance tasks to ensure that offices, restrooms, breakrooms, and common areas meet VSI standards of cleanliness and safety.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Cleans and sanitizes restrooms, breakrooms, offices, and common areas.
  • Sweeps, mops, scrubs, vacuums, and buffs floors using appropriate cleaning equipment and supplies.
  • Empties and cleans trash containers, recycling bins, and replaces liners.
  • Dusts furniture, fixtures, vents, and surfaces to maintain a clean and professional environment.
  • Cleans windows, doors, mirrors, and other glass surfaces.
  • Restocks restroom and breakroom supplies as needed.
  • Reports any maintenance or safety issues (e.g., leaks, broken equipment, unsafe conditions) to management.
  • Maintains cleaning equipment and supplies in good working condition; ensures storage areas are organized and secure.
  • Follows all company safety procedures, including proper handling of cleaning chemicals and PPE requirements.
  • Assists with light maintenance or special cleaning projects as assigned (e.g., event setup, spill cleanup, seasonal deep cleaning).
  • Maintains good housekeeping habits in all work areas.
  • Attends required staff meetings and participates in discussions on improving cleaning operations.
  • Maintains a professional demeanor, appearance, and conduct at all times.
  • Performs other job‑related tasks or special projects as directed by management.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent GED certificate.
  • One (1) or more years of janitorial, custodial, or facility maintenance experience preferred; or
  • Any combination of experience, education, and training that provides the required skills and abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality work.
  • Basic understanding of cleaning chemicals, safety procedures, and sanitation standards.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to follow assigned schedules.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and perform multiple tasks efficiently.

Physical Demands & Working Conditions

  • Required to stand, walk and sit for extended periods of time.
  • May be routinely required to stoop, bend, kneel, lift and reach, in the performance of job duties.
  • Requires the essential use of hands, speech, eyesight, and hearing.
  • Vision requirements include close and distance vision, peripheral and depth vision, and the ability to adjust focus as needed.
  • Noise level for this work environment is typically moderate to high.
  • Warehouse temperature varies due to climate variations.
