Department Overview The Department of Biological and Forensic Sciences is an academic unit committed to serving a diverse student body, including military and international students, through effective teaching, active scholarship, and service‑learning activities.

The department offers a Bachelor of Science in Biology with concentrations in pre‑health, organismal biology, and molecular biology/biotechnology, as well as a Bachelor of Science in Forensic Sciences and a minor in Biology and Biotechnology. It currently has over 400 undergraduate students and 17 tenured or tenure‑track faculty members.

The mission is to provide high‑quality, student‑centered academic programs and courses at the undergraduate level, preparing students for government, industry, health‑related professions, education careers, and further study in graduate or professional schools.

Position Summary The department invites applicants for a tenure‑track Assistant Professor position effective Fall. New faculty will receive a 20% reduction in teaching effort during the first two years of probation.

Responsibilities

Teach undergraduate courses in zoology, anatomy and physiology, vertebrate physiology, and general biology.

Develop and teach new courses in the Biology Program.

Advise and mentor students, including undergraduate research experiences.

Serve on departmental, college, and university committees.

Build and maintain professional relationships with local, regional, and national organizations.

Establish an active, externally funded research program involving undergraduate students.

Qualifications

Ph.D. in Biology or a closely related field.

Record of teaching, research, and service commensurate with a tenure‑track rank.

Demonstrated commitment to student engagement, success, and mentoring.

Evidence of service to the profession and/or community.

Preferred experience teaching courses in general zoology, human anatomy, comparative anatomy, vertebrate physiology, or general biology at an undergraduate university or community college.
