Position Details
Role: Manufacturing Engineer – Operations
Department: Blue Origin Operations (Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, Mission Assurance)
Location: Example: Space Coast, FL
Shift: Mon-Fri (6 am–2:30 pm, second shift required)
Relocation: Available
Potential travel: up to 10 % of the time for training and support
Key Responsibilities
Support the industrialization of new products in areas such as solar arrays, integration and test, avionics, and structures.
Contribute to design for manufacturability, assembly, and test to build reliable vehicles.
Translate engineering requirements into robust, repeatable manufacturing processes.
Collaborate closely with design engineering, quality assurance, supply chain, and production teams.
Develop and maintain manufacturing documentation, including work instructions, process flow diagrams, tool designs, and inspection plans.
Evaluate and implement new manufacturing technologies and methods (composites, precision machining, additive manufacturing, advanced assembly).
Support root‑cause analysis of process or product non‑conformances; develop corrective actions.
Ensure all work aligns with quality and safety standards (AS9100, ISO 9001).
Participate in process FMEAs, risk assessments, and validation of new production lines and equipment.
Identify and complete opportunities for efficiency gains and cost reduction.
Team Focus & Domain Expertise Lunar Mission Operations plays a crucial role in the successful deployment and operation of the Transporter vehicle. As a key component of our mission, Lunar Ops ensures the Transporter vehicle is developed, assembled, and thoroughly tested to meet all lunar requirements.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Electrical, Aerospace Engineering or related field from an accredited university.
3+ years of experience in a manufacturing, industrial, or process engineering role.
1+ year of experience creating English work instructions.
Must be able to work second shift and flexible with shift changes; open to extended hours if required.
Preferred Qualifications
Basic understanding of Lean Six Sigma principles.
General knowledge of quality and safety standards such as AS9100 and ISO 9001.
Experience or internship in manufacturing engineering, preferably aerospace.
Some exposure to assembling and integrating aerospace vehicles or subsystems.
Familiarity with cleanroom environments.
Participation in projects related to new product introduction or production processes.
Basic understanding of mechanical design and manufacturing principles.
Interest in manufacturing automation and digital work instructions.
Familiarity with CAD software and PLM/MRP systems.
Experience designing or using tooling and fixtures.
Ability to support basic product requirements and teamwork.
Familiarity with bill-of-materials concepts.
Willingness to learn from and collaborate with experienced engineers and technicians.
Basic understanding of project management.
Good communication skills and team orientation.
Commitment to quality, detail, and mission assurance.
